*SAMPLE SALE* Dipping into Diptyque

In my opinion, there's no better or chicer way to fill your home with alluring scents than with a few well-placed aromatic candles. The leading brand in luxury home fragrances is by far Diptyque and the French company is set to host its ever so popular sample sale this week. I had a chance to attend their Friends & Family portion today and I can attest to the fact that whether you want something fresh & uplifting or sensuous & moody, you can count on the legendary Parisian perfumer to instantly add warmth to your home. So, are you ready to dip into Diptyque? Here's a rundown on what you can expect at tomorrow's public opening.

First of all, let me start this article by mentioning that my olfactory receptors were on full alert the moment I entered the 225 5th Ave sale space. With every deep breath I took, the intoxicating perfumes tingled my senses and the scent notes pulled me in every which direction. The scents and smells were so overwhelmingly lovely that I had to take a brief pause to orient myself. Once my mind was calm and I had adjusted to my surroundings, I headed directly for the standard candles section. Here I found a cornucopia of scents ranging from: Ciel, Myrrhe, Pomander, Gardénia, Maquis, Lilas, Tubéreuse, Cannelle, Verveine, Aubépine, Choisya, Cyprès, Opopanax, Foin Coupé, Pin, Chêne, Géranium Rosa, Feu de Bois, Héliotrope, Oranger, Oyédo, and Feuille de Lavande. As for pricing, standard candles were $35 each (a $5 increase from last year's sale). You'll also want to note that there was a limit of 15 standard candles allowed for each shopper.

In the colored candles section, I found: Tubéreuse Rouge, Figuier Verte, Baies Noire, and Feu de Bois Gris. Colored candles were $45 each--the same as last year's price.

Mini candles were priced $15 and were available in Verveine, Roses, Oranger, Choisya, Jasmin, Cypès, Baies, Tubéreuse, and Pomander.

In the holiday candles section, standard sizes were $35, minis were $16, mini pine ovals were $27, 10 candle votive sets were $65, candle sets of 5 were $33, AOBC holiday sets were $25, and candle/oval sets were $49. I was able to find Ambre Oud, Sapin Doré, Orange Chai, Ecorce de Pin, and Encens des Indes.

EDP (Eau de Parfum) bottles were available in L'Eau de L'Eau, L'Eau de Néroli, L'Eau des Hespérides, L'Eau de Tarocco, Eau Rose, and Eau Mohéli. As for prices, 75 ml bottles were $70, roll-ons were $28, and solid perfumes were $24.

EDT (Eau de Toilettes) bottles were available in Philosykos, Tam Dao, Vetyverio, L'Ombre dans l'Eau, Oyédo, Virgilio, Ofrésia, L'Eau, L'Autre, and Eau de Lierre. As for prices, 50 ml bottles were $44, 100 ml bottles were $60, and roll-ons were $24.

Scented ovals were $23 while room sprays were $35. There was a nice variety of Ambre, Baies, Feuille de Lavande, Roses, and Choisya available.

Body care products were divided into 11 categories. Fresh body lotions were $29, Precious Oils were $39, Crème Riche jars were $45, body scrubs were $34, velvet hand lotions were $21, hand soaps were $19, satin oils were $29, shower gels were $19, body washes were $21, scented body creams were $34, and scented body lotions were $28.

Over at the testers section, I found several different scents such as Ciel, Encens des Indes, Encorce de Pin, and Lierre. Testers were priced $27.

This year's Diptyque sample sale will run through this Friday. Last year, 260 Sample Sale was kind enough to open their doors early for shoppers who had to wait in the freezing rain. Since tomorrow's temps are expected to drop into the 20s, there's a possibility the sale will start before 10am. Regardless, you'll still have to get there early as I'm told the organizers have decided to let in only 10 shoppers at a time. Finally, you'll want to note that there is a total purchase limit of 40 items per shopper.

  11. I was on line this morning. One of the early birds. And yes I read your review last night to prepare. Thank you for that! Its also fun to hear other people talk about your review. There were three girls in front of me who were also discussing your review! You are such a resource!!!
I must say though they did NOT open the sale early so we waited almost 2 1/2 hours before we can got in. There were a a few line cutters which infuriated me because I was the 10th person in line originally. One girl tried to cut the line and join her friend but it was a good thing the girls in front me me told her that she should go at the end of the line. There was one particular girl though who insisted on staying and her friend was the second in line! Both of them said that that she just left to park the car. Seriously for an hour? So she and her friend just basically turn their backs to the rest of the people.
Aside from that...I grabbed my candles and was out of their in 15-20 minutes. I did not want to linger cause I felt bad for the other people waiting outside. IT WAS FREEZING!
But now I am confused...first reports stated no restocking now I am hearing they will be...any news on that front?

  12. I was the person who wait for outside for 3.5 hours, and there were NOTHING left around 12pm. (Only some holiday candles). It is NOT worthy to wait for the line and Am extremely disappointed about the sale, since there is nothing you can purchased.

  18. Hi all, despite a heavy restock today, the sale WILL NOT be opening tomorrow (Friday) as there is seriously no more merch to sell. By the end people were buying ANYTHING they could get their hands on.

    1. I'm torn between loving this site and hating it. I love that you provide outstanding sale coverage (no fluff; just details) and is always the first to break news on the big name sample sales. But I hate that everyone knows this you which make for long lines and sold out sales like this Diptyque sale.
