*SAMPLE SALE* It's Storytime!

Fivestory, an UES multi-brand boutique, is a cozy fashion haven for the city's elite and label-loving shopaphiles. With posh brands like Aquazzura, Marni, Gianvito Rossi, Carven, Balmain, and more placed under one roof, it's a one-stop shop for anyone who loves... well, shopping. In the past, the company hosted their clearance sale at the Bowery Hotel but this time they opted to host their bi-annual bargain event in the heart of SoHo. With discounts reaching up to 80% off retail, this morning's press preview was a fashion sale-a-bration of designer goods. So gather around, kids, because it's storytime!

Merchandise at the Fivestory sample sale was marked down to either 60% off or 80% off. The majority of the inventory sided with the latter of the two discounts but we'll start the tour of the sale in the 60% off section which was set up in the front of the venue. Items in this area consisted of merchandise that just arrived directly from Fivestory's UES store. Designer RTW, shoes, handbags, children's wear, and jewelry from recent S/S '15 collections were on offer. While browsing the seven racks of apparel, I came across a sleeveless floral print dress from Giambattista Valli priced $1,270 (15th photo below), a black and white raffia fringed pencil skirt from Balmain priced $1,018 (16th photo below), a button-front gingham skirt from Carven priced $188 (19th photo below), an open neck polka dot dress from Thakoon priced $580 (18th photo below), a strapless pink & yellow alphabet jacquard dress from Mary Katrantzou priced $990 (20th photo below), and a criss-cross accordion top from Alexander Wang priced $642 (22nd photo below).

Shoes that were marked 60% off were highly desirable but, unfortunately, they came with hefty price tags. Suede lace-up gladiator sandals from ChloƩ were $398 (2nd photo below), PVC pointed toe flats from Gianvito Rossi were $264, and Varina flats in lace or denim from Ferragamo were $220 (4th photo below).

The bag section was pretty disappointing in terms of selection and pricing. A Rochas two-tone leather tote was $488 (9th photo below), a Narciso Rodriguez Tejus tote in tan was $1,038 (10th photo below), Hunting Season python clutches were $358, and Olympia Le Tan book clutches were $600 & $720 (11th photo below).

The 80% off merchandise consisted of older seasons' designer goods and can be found in the back of the sale space. This section consisted of womenswear, shoes, children, and men's offerings. In women's apparel, there were ten racks in total. I found a metallic beige skirt from Peter Pilotto priced $312 (23rd photo below), a black & white pleated dress from Thakoon priced $474, a sleeveless navy dress from Roland Mouret priced $105, a white buttonless jacket from Giambattista Valli priced $880 (24th photo below), rose print slim trousers from Mother of Pearl priced $158 (25th photo below), and a bright red belted pants from Preen priced $247 (27th photo below).

Eighty percent off shoes were placed all the way in the back with brand names like Nina Ricci, Sergio Rossi, Alexander Wang, Giambattista Valli, Jason Wu, ChloƩ, Carven, Gianvito Rossi, and Aquazzura up for grabs. A pair of burgundy PVC pumps from Gianvito Rossi were $145, tortoise sandals from Sergio Rossi were $191, black bow sandals from Nina Ricci were $179, Electric pumps from Aquazzura were $159, and ankle wrap sandals from Alexander Wang were $110.

The men's merchandise consisted of four racks of clothes and two large tables of shoes and accessories. The accessories were made up of ties, wallets, and phone cases. In addition, there was a single black leather briefcase and several camo-print pouches from Valentino discounted 80% off.

  1. Thanks for the review!! I was debating whether or not to check it out. I think I will after work. On a separate note, if there is a VIP portion to the Bottega Veneta sale, and you happen to go to it, I would LOVE to read your review. I'm heavily debating if I should take a day off for that one. As always, thank you so much for everything you do!

    1. Hi Michael,

Yes, there will be a VIP portion for the Bottega Veneta sale. However, because early access shoppers grab most of the good stuff, I don't think it's worth taking a day off work. Thank you always for reading!

  4. i was disappointed. I thought for the condition and age, many items were very overpriced. I would cheek out bergdorf before here. The Narcisco Rodriguez bags were really beaten up -very damaged for only 60 off

  5. I too was disappointed with this sale. The selection and prices in particular just didn't wow me. You can get the same designer shoes for 75% off instead of 60 at the department store sales. Sergio Rossi was cheaper during C21 sample sale and Mary Kantrantzou at the Scoop warehouse sales.

There were a few great deals on outerwear if you're a size 40. I also loved Magritte Limoges porcelain plates for $25. This sale really needs steeper markdowns to make it truly worthwhile.

  8. Thanks for the coverage, Miz. Great writeup and pictures, as always. The shoes look pretty nice, sadly, can't say the same with the prices. But this is 260, I'm sure there'll be additional markdowns towards the end. Please keep us posted on Twitter if you get word. Thanks.
