*SAMPLE SALE* Proenza Bonanza

Another busy week of sample sales is here! And to kick Monday off with a big bargain bang, I swung by Proenza Schouler's November sale event hosted at Century 21. This is the brand's second sample sale at C21 (their last sale was held in July) and the private VIP/Press portion for this week's Proenza bonanza was well underway when I stopped by the sale earlier today.

Once inside 21 Dey Street, I started my inspection in the handbag section located on the left side of the main level. There I found an overwhelming amount of shoppers busily snatching up deals on Proenza Schouler must-have bags. Despite the purchase limit (4 bags and 3 small leather goods per shopper) set in place, there were still lots of hoarding going on. The label's most sought-after styles like PS1 (priced $449 for tiny and $499 for medium) and PS11 (priced $299 for mini and $499 for standard) were available in seasonal colors this morning but were disappearing fast. By the time I left, nearly all of them had been scooped up by lucky early bird bargain hunters. As for the rest of the bags on the eight multi-level racks, they included python Lunch Bag clutches for $405, PS1 Keep All satchels for $499, PS13 totes for $399, python PS11 bags for $975, crocodile PS13 totes for $7,350, Large Bucket bags for $495, Buckle Bag clutches for $299, and python Courier shoulder bags for $791.

Small leather goods (wallets, iPad cases, keychains, and coin purses), scarves, and jewelry were also situated on the main floor. Placed in several vitrines throughout the venue, prices on small zip wallets were $79 while continental zips were $129. In addition, suede and leather versions of the PS1 wallet were $129. Also included in the accessories section were coin purses for $75, PS1 iPad cases for $99, and keychains for $29. Finally, the discounted jewelry was comprised of $64 earrings and several boxes worth of costume necklaces.

Markdowns on women's shoes were really impressive this time around. Red tweed flats were $69, crocodile-embossed loafers were $99, leather espadrilles were $99, low-heel sandals were $149, black & white woven heel sandals were $119, wooden platform sandals were $149, ankle-wrap flat sandals were $149, and leather booties were $199. Overall, the price range for shoes was $69 to $299.

Proenza Schouler's Ready-to-Wear from past seasons were available on both the main floor and upper level. Discounts were generous but figuring out prices was a bit of a task. On the second floor, half of the prêt-à-porter inventory was marked with barely noticeable colored plastic strings. Each string had a matching price: green was $29, blue was $49, purple $69, pink $99, yellow $199, and black $499. The rest of the apparel which was sans string was priced as marked with a normal tag. The 28 racks of apparel included shirts, dresses, heavy knits, outerwear, skirts, shorts, trousers, swimsuits, and jeans discounted up to 85% off.

This week's Proenza Schouler sample sale was supposed to open tomorrow to the general public but, due to a technical error on C21's part, the sale organizers started letting in the public at 11am today. The sale is open till 9pm tonight so if you can, you'll want to run over now to shop the best selection. If finding bigger bargains is your main concern, I'm told there will most likely be additional markdowns towards the end of the sale. I will make sure to keep you updated regarding this matter.

    1. It went public at 11am. C21 messed up and said the sale opened today instead of tuesday in their email.

  9. The most disorganized sale ever. I never made it in on Monday at 8am despite fact I
was invited as friends and family and told to be there at 8am. (Proenza seems to have told their
employees that friends and family was at 8am or thsi was miscommunicated somehow by employees)
Century told their employees that they could enter on 8 am monday as well as sending out an email to the public that it opened at 8am for everyone according to another blogger. Century opened door for friends and family at 8am. I hadnt made it in but a woman came out —distraught. Saying she was literally thrown out of the sale by a proenza person..She said that
At 8 this blond woman from proenza was literally grabbing bags out of the
hands of friends family and screaming GO LEAVE !!! and getting security to escort them out —seriously WTF? to friends and family as well as employees of Proenza (they got to stay despite security telling them initially to leave as well) ) and C21 employees.

The term friends and family mean that these people were invited and are VIPs —what a lovely
way to treat your special customers! Moreover, they were invited in by Century as well as everyone else. An email from Century allegedly said that the sale opened to public on monday at 8am.
So i go to a sale wait on line for an hour only to learn that Friends and Family is at 11am so after 2 hours i left but by the time i get back the public has been allowed in and most handbags were gone.

Meanwhile century 21 is not capable of
handing these sales —the cash registers crashed leaving long lines taking
up to 2 hours to check out. People were asking in a store of cash registers why accomodations were not made to allow a group to use an outside register.
On the other hand the century 21 security guards were
actually nicer than the proenza people —and that says a LOT!!! the male guy
checking in people was especially nice and sweet which made things a bit better

but somebody needs to get their act together and proenza needs to get a nicer
    public relations presence..

    3. thats horrible. I have been to many sales at C21 and it was organized. I think Century made a mistake with the email and that took everyone for a loop. Also I went at 6 pm and there were still many handbags to choose from, so I'm not sure why you say nothing was left.

    4. Hi -- I shoud have clarified -- as compared to what was offered at 8am -- the woman i spoke to said she had come to the sale for a croc python ps11 small not tiny bag. Her daughter works for the company and she was on the invite list. She was holding it and the woman grabbed it forcibly out of her hand -- screaming at her JUST GO!
She told me that they had ps 11 in black and python and a black with turquose python for 775 and she was so excited but her excitement turned to mortification. There were no ps11 in black or python other than the tiny when i got back at 1pm. I think she said there were loads of black and brown bags as well.

  10. I was the 9th person in and I was looking for a wallet on chain but they seemed to have been scooped up yesterday along with other nice bags. There were loads of PS1 wallets and PS11 patents but they were quickly scooped up. I went home with a card case.

  11. there are plenty of wallets, but I did not like the colors - orange, grey and white mostly, and some black patent leather coin holders.
i think shoes were beautiful and nicely priced though.
