*SAMPLE SALE* Madewell for You

After checking out J.Crew's Midtown sample sale, my next stop on my agenda was to head to the Madewell sample sale in SoHo. Located at 151 Wooster Street, the sale venue was even quieter than J.Crew's press preview so I was able to take a look at the goods in a casual and relaxed manner just like the style of the brand.

The layout for this week's Madewell sample sale is divided into outerwear, apparel, shoes, jewelry, and accessories. After checking in, shoppers are greeted by several racks of coats, parkas, jackets, and heavy knits. Walking further back, the apparel section splits into two: dresses, shirts, and skirts on the left side while jeans, button-down shirts, t-shirts, and tanks are on the right. The first thing I noticed while browsing the womenswear section was that, despite the label's strong denim heritage, the sale offered only six racks of jeans this time around. Sizes were available from 24 to 30.

The rest of the women's clothes was pretty well stocked (more than J.Crew for sure). Winter outerwear such as hooded parkas, oversized tweed coats, faux fur jackets, plaid vests, and peacoats looked so stylish that it got me thinking whether this winter will even get cold enough for people to actually enjoy wearing these items. After my inner meteorologist had her moment, I quickly moved on to see what other boyish casual staples were available. Amongst the ready-to-burst racks, I spotted tons of plaid shirts, cotton t-shirts, turtleneck sweaters, denim shorts, and off-duty dresses. In terms of pricing, outerwear was $60~$150, dresses were $30 & $60, jeans were $40, skirts were $25 & $40, sweaters were $35~$90, and shirts/tees were $15~$40.

The 10+ racks of shoes were placed in the back of the sale space and sizes ranged from 5 to 11. Billie booties and Mira pumps were among the several styles that could be found in the footwear section. Tall boots were $130, heels and booties were $100, and flats were $65.

In the center of the venue, there were fourteen plastic bins full of accessories. Grouped by category, the containers held leather bags, socks, hats, sunglass cases, and small leather goods. Everything here was priced $10~$130. In addition to these bins, there was a vitrine that displayed jewelry. Necklaces were $20, bracelets were $15, earrings were $15, and rings were $10 & $15.

This completes Mizhattan's sample sale reports for J.Crew and Madewell. Both sales are scheduled to open at 10am today but if you don't have the time to check out both events, I hope this report and the one for J.Crew will help you decide which one to attend. Happy Shopping!
