*SAMPLE SALE* Festooned in Thakoon

Even with the calendar rolled to April, New York is feeling a lot like mid-January this week. The good news is a print-tastic shopping event is just around the corner, and it is guaranteed to cheer you up regardless of how chilly it is outside. That's because Thai-born, New York-based, and Anna Wintour-approved Thakoon Panichgul is set to host his 2016 spring sample sale this Thursday, April 7th for a VIP showing, followed by the official public opening next week. The event will offer amazing discounts on the label's past seasons' merchandise and the reps at the brand gave me an early tour yesterday afternoon. After viewing the sale goodies, I can say with confidence it is the event to attend to be festooned in Thakoon.

Known for artful prints and feminine silhouettes, luxury designer label Thakoon caters to modern women with impeccable taste in style. At their upcoming sample sale, shoppers will find the designer's past collections discounted 75% off or more. When I swung by to preview, items were already neatly organized and ready for Thursday's special opening (you can learn how to attend: here).

The sale offerings (twenty-one racks of RTW, a limited selection of shoes, and scarves) were set up inside Thakoon's corporate showroom located at borderline of West Village and SoHo. I started my inspection in the apparel section and found it to be comprised of items from both Thakoon and the brand's lower-priced diffusion line, Thakoon Addition. Everything was priced individually and there was a great diversity of prints, colors, and textures.

To list some of the highlights, I spotted a grid print peplum top priced $69 (originally $520 & 5th photo below), a gray sweatshirt and shirt combo priced $69 (originally $525 & 6th photo below), a red printed dress priced $199 (originally $1,990 & 8th photo below), a floral print skirt priced $199 (originally $1,450 & 11th photo below), a black mini floral skirt priced $69 (originally $390 & 13th photo below), drapey polka dot pants priced $199 (originally $1,380 & 15th photo below), black pinstripe trousers priced $59 (originally $425 & 16th photo below), a pink ribbed-detailed coat priced $399 (originally $2,790 & 17th photo below), a leopard printed coat priced $69 (originally $660 & 18th photo below), a hooded military jacket priced $199 (originally $890 & 20th photo below), and a raffia-trimmed tweed jacket priced $199 (originally $1,490 & 21st photo below).

As for actual samples, there wasn't a separate area dedicated to them. Instead, one-off items were scattered all over the racks and placed alongside the production overstock. Depending on the item, prices for sample pieces were $29, $59, or $99.

Unfortunately, the only accessories available at this sale were shoes and scarves--no bags. All shoes were discounted to $49 but sizes were mostly available in 40. Also, it's important to note that all shoes showed signs of wear. Scarves, on the other hand, were an absolute steal. Each item was priced at just $19 and there was a variety of prints and colors to freshen up any spring wardrobe.

This month's Thakoon sample sale officially opens to the public next Monday, April 11th. But as I mentioned, there will be an exclusive day set aside for Mizhattanites this Thursday from 12pm to 9pm. If you can, I suggest you take advantage of this pre-sale as it will allow you to grab first dibs on the superb discounts and inventory that the brand is offering.

    1. They didn't have a changing room ready as it was only a sneak peek preview. I'm not sure if they will set one up on Thursday.

  6. I went there yesterday before close. The floor was quiet and neatly arranged. Some pieces from resort 2016 and last season as well. The discount was amazing. I found pieces more than 90% off. Not sure if they are going to restock, but the clothes on the rack are a lot less than Miz pictures above when I got there (and less when I left!)

  9. i went thurs afternoon and they said fri is their last day. they also marked down some stuff - some non-sample dresses, and shoes are now $29, but most of the stuff i saw weren't marked down from the preview. everything's pretty depleted, especially the s/s 2016 stuff and the smaller sizes. debating whether to stop by again tomorrow - some of the dresses are now >90% off.
