*SAMPLE SALE* A Grab Bag

Despite a busy spring sample sale season, C21 has been surprisingly quiet these past several months. But, better late than never, right? The Financial District discount department store jumped right back into the sample sale scene by kicking off a special designer handbag event this morning. And despite the sale announcement being sent out late Friday, the ambiance inside the venue was abuzz with early birds.

The discounted designer bags were organized on multiple glass shelves on the first floor. With markdowns reaching up to 75% off, designer labels included Tod's, Valentino, Céline, Jimmy Choo, Dolce & Gabbana, Salvatore Ferragamo, Alexander McQueen, Proenza Schouler, and Lanvin.

For Céline, there were only four styles up for grabs. I spotted vertical Bi-Cabas in pink for $480 and horizontal Bi-Cabas in orange for $538. For Valentino, the merch included Rockstud totes, chain shoulder bags, and evening box clutches from many seasons back. As for Lanvin and Alexander McQueen, I saw mini Happys in blue for $795 and Padlock Zip Around totes in black for $622.50.

Proenza Schouler and Salvatore Ferragamo had the largest selection out of all the brands. For Proenza, there was a variety of PS1 satchels and bucket bags for half off. Ferragamo bags were also 50% off, and I saw small Fiammas for $875, medium Fiammas for $1,125, and Gancio totes for $1,050. In addition, Ferragamo wallets were available and they were 50% off as well.

After inspecting the goods, I didn't think the sale was as spectacular as what the ad promised. But nonetheless, there were still some reasonable deals to be had. The Ferragamo inventory, especially, came out on top since there were current season bags in classic colors like black and beige for half off. Otherwise, if you're looking for deals on designer handbags, now is the time to hit department stores and boutiques as spring sales are heating up.

    1. Yep, they weren't fantastic deals...just okay. Of the brands, Ferragamo was the clear winner in terms of selection.
