*SALE HUNT* Checking Out Saks Consolidation Sale

Just like this week's sweltering weather, the summer sale season is at its hottest. Retailers and department stores alike are pulling out all the stops for their final markdowns. I've been eagerly awaiting the semi-annual Saks Consolidation Sale for a while now and decided to swing by the flagship store yesterday evening. So, let's see what this summer finale sale has to offer!

When I arrived on the 9th floor of Saks, the department store was in the midst of their pre-sale. Tons of discounted designer goods were patiently waiting for bargain shoppers to take them home. From Armani to Wu, I found more than 80 racks of high-end RTW organized neatly in rows. Here are some of my findings.

First off, shoppers will be able to easily navigate the long rows of clothes as everything is arranged by designer. As for prices, customers will have to do a little mental arithmetics as everything is an additional 25% off the lowest ticketed price. Designer labels present at this sale include Burberry Prorsum, Jil Sander, Dolce & Gabbana, Michael Kors, Chloé, Alexander McQueen, Dior, Marni, Donna Karan, Oscar de la Renta, Giambattista Valli, and many more.

To dive into details, here are some items that caught my eye. Pamela Roland's sleeveless cocktail frock was $841.50 (originally $1,870 & 2nd photo below), Chloé's round eyelet shorts were $405 (originally $1,350 & 3rd photo below), McQueen's black & gold brocade dress was $1,045.50 (4th photo below), Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti's trench coat was $406.50 (5th photo below), Marc Jacobs' breton top was $195 (6th photo below), Giambattista Valli's floral print dress coat was $1,579.50 (originally $5,265 & 8th photo below), Stella McCartney's ice blue blazer was $463.50 (9th photo below), Stella McCartney's polka-dot top was $154.50 (originally $515 & 10th photo below), Ralph Lauren's polka-dot blue skirt was $329.40 (originally $1,098 &13th photo below), and Jason Wu's belted pink dress was $412.50 (originally $1,375 & 15th photo below).

Of the many labels, shoppers will quickly learn that inventory isn't spread out evenly. For example, I found American brands like Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karen, Oscar de la Renta, and Ralph Lauren stocked to the brim. However, merchandise for European houses like Céline, Fendi, Saint Laurent, and Prada consisted of a paltry 1 to 5 pieces. Also, you should be warned that since the sale is in its clearance stage, sizes are definitely limited.

The sale officially kicks off this Friday, but the pre-sale has been in progress since yesterday. Shoes and handbags are not included in the 9th floor Consolidation Sale. However, if you go down one floor, you'll find footwear discounted between 40%~60%. Not a mind-blowing deal but who can really complain.

Because every lunch break needs a good dessert, I recommend you check out this sale. With a keen eye and perseverance rummaging through the many racks, you could come out rewarded with an amazing deal. In case you're wondering, the sale ends on August 18th.

  1. Thanks for the great sales report. Would it be possible to do a roundup about what's available for men, especially in suits, at the Saks sale? Many of my male friends read and love your site.

    1. Hi Ethan,

Thank you for your kind words! This sale is only for womenswear. The men's Consolidation Sale was actually held a couple of weeks prior.

  2. Will there be further reductions as the sale goes on?

    1. I was told a small selection will see a teeny tiny reduction. If I were to weigh the pros & cons, I would suggest going now. The variety of clothes more than makes up for the slight reduction in the coming weeks.

  3. Could you provide a bit more insight on what's available for Dior and prices ? Thank you so much!

    1. There were around 10 Dior RTW pieces sandwiched between McQueen and Céline, 4 of which were repeats in different sizes. I didn't spend too much time as the selection was meager. If I recollect correctly, I saw a light pink dress in a size 8. Sorry but I can't say much about pricing. If you're going to the Consolidation Sale for Dior, I would skip it.

  4. Does the actual sale see more discounts than pre-sale? I went yesterday and the same Roberto Cavalli dress that would have been ~$700 during the 4th of July sale was now ~$900. Odd if you ask me. Also, shoes are bunk now. No additional 50% off and it seems as though ticket prices are also higher than 4th prices.

    1. Prices at the pre-sale and the official sale are the same. Like I mentioned in my previous article (click here), the 4th of July sale at Saks was a better deal + better selection.

    2. Yes the prices were much better during the 4th of july sale. I purchased a red valentino orange dress for 150.00 orig 500.00 online now a little over 200.00. I think they were mark downs of 25% off lowest price. Know your prices. I did a pre-sell by phone for a pair of Vince suede black leggins orig 995.00 with mark downs and % off a little over 200.00. These same leggins are back for the fall 2013 line at 995.00. During the 4th of july sale the womens shoes were practically sold out.

    1. The Saks Consolidation Sale is only for RTW. If you're looking for a Tory Burch handbag, I would suggest checking out the Tory Burch online sale. They are currently offering an additional 20% off on sale merchandise--this includes bags. You just have to use promo code: EXTRA20. Click THIS LINK.

  6. Right now my store is offering an additional 25% off shoes. Do you know if they typically offer bigger discounts or reductions as the sale goes on? There are five pairs of the boots I want, so I don't feel the need to rush out and buy them, especially if they'll be further reduced later.

Also, do you know if they allow returns on sale merchandise?

    Thank you.

    1. Saks will reduce prices on certain items as the sale progresses. But, as I mentioned in an above comment, the additional reductions aren't worth the wait.

If the merchandise was purchased during the final sale (they usually mark the receipt with a stamp), then you can't return it. But any regular sale item is returnable.
