Without such creative window showcases lighting up the streets of Manhattan, the city would be one boring place, don't you agree? Whether it be department stores or designer boutiques, peeking at and photographing eye-catching displays is one of my favorite activities and I love sharing them with you. Here are my favorite five of 2016.

What would the holidays be without Bergdorf Goodman's legendary windows?! For 2016, the art team at BG took inspiration from Henri Rousseau's paintings and trips to the American Museum of Natural History to build this enchanting, larger-than-life presentation. Creating drama and mystery from elements of the natural world (jungles, forests, and gardens) this year's theme, Destination Extraordinary, took six months to construct. Eager to see more? Capturing the enchanting charm of the city and adding a heaping dash of Christmas richness and extravagance, Tiffany & Co. has once again put on a dazzling holiday display for 2016. With Christmas trees draped in pearls and gems, a fantastic feast with party-poppers filled with jewels, and a twinkling Manhattan evening skyline used as a backdrop, the American luxury jeweler is making this festive season even more magical for passersby who take a peek into their storefront windows.
It's the most wonderful time of the year! With the calendar now turned to December, major department stores all over the city are showing off their creative skills by decking out their storefront windows with dazzling displays of lights, colors, and holiday joy. At Barneys, the theme is love, peace, and joy. There is an animated display dedicated to tv show South Park and modern artworks by Nick Cave, Rob Pruitt, and Studio Job. Over at Bloomingdale's, their intricate windows have themes such as Aurora Borealis, Underwater Stars, Sparkle, and more. And finally, the Macy's windows on Broadway are dedicated to the children. With Santa, Mrs. Claus, and an army of elves working diligently to get everything ready for Christmas, the animated displays bring a smile to all who pass by. So, without further ado, let's kick start Mizhattan's Annual Sunday Window Shopping Holiday Edition. Let the show begin!
For this week's SWS, we take a look at Spanish fashion label Massimo Dutti and Italian fashion brand Tod's. At Massimo Dutti on 5th Ave, the chain put together a display with mannequins dressed up in holiday party outfits. As for Tod's on Madison, the company placed their latest accessories in front of animated digital displays. Have a look at both stores after the break.
Ruffles, frills, and flounces! Italian fashion house Fendi decorated their 57th Street boutique windows using highlight looks from their Fall '16 collection, and it is divine! From floral prints to wavy stripes to lots and lots of ruffles, the Karl Lagerfeld-designed autumn line radiates a world of playfulness. Earlier this week, after checking out the Oscar de la Renta sample sale, I took a short stroll around the SoHo area to see how fashion brands were dressing up their windows. Moncler's store on Prince St. showed some very fierce visuals with a pair of polar bears roaring in the background. In addition, Chanel and Dior displayed attention-grabbing autumn looks, so click past the break and take a peek at their windows as well.
Gucci's electrifying flagship windows caught my eye while walking along 5th Ave last week. With pieces from the house's Autumn '16 collection on display, passersby can take a closer look at yet another unique direction by Alessandro Michele. In addition, the boutique is also showcasing their newly relaunched GG Marmont handbag collection. First launched in the 1970s, the designer has now given it a thorough modern update with several different styles (tote, camera, and shoulder) available. When it comes to attracting the eyes of shoppers, powerhouse brands like Chanel and Dior don't need grand, lavish displays to flaunt their products. Instead, they let the clothes and accessories do the convincing. For this week's Sunday Window Shopping, I present gorgeous and drool-worthy looks from the two Parisian labels. Enjoy!
Former ballerina Filipa Júlio founded Josefinas in 2013, and since then, the brand has grown to create an exquisite collection of ballet flats and sneakers that are handmade in Portugal. The label was named after Júlio's grandmother who took her to ballet class when she was a little girl and nurtured Filipa with a life full of special adventures. This summer, Josefinas opened its NYC flagship at 252 Elizabeth Street, and tapped Christian Lahoude (an architect who designed stores for Gucci, Tiffany's, and Jimmy Choo) to decorate the space. Earlier this week, I was given a tour of this new Nolita boutique, and while taking a look at the beautiful shoes, I took some photos of their cozy space and decided to share them for this week's SWS. Salvatore Ferragamo's big concept behind their Fall '16 collection is a medley of lively colors, and their NYC flagship store seems to deliver that message well. With bright stripes in hues of yellow, fuchsia, coral, orange, blue, and more covering their windows, Ferragamo's fall outfits and display were definitely hard to miss. Peeking into the windows of Tiffany & Co.'s flagship store always fills me with wonderment. With gorgeous decorations and drool-worthy jewelry, you easily loose your sense of reality and immediately get transported to another world. This week, when I passed by the brand's Fifth Ave landmark, I found the house's classics (Tiffany Keys, Tiffany T, Return to Tiffany, and more) on display with a scale model of their building used as a backdrop. After over a year of extensive renovations, Bergdorf Goodman unveiled their brand spanking new main floor earlier this month. To celebrate such a grand occasion, New York's luxury shopping institution decorated their storefront to mark the festivities. Behind the windows were scenes full of champagne, sparkles, glitz & glam mannequins, as well as the season's must-have handbags. So, click past the break and join the party!
The Michael Kors Collection store on Madison Avenue is greeting the new season with playful pieces from the designer's pre-fall collection. The boutique is oozing charm and fabulousness by putting on display a festive feather-embellished dress in bubblegum pink, abstract floral prints, shiny metallic accessories, and more lovely goodies. Inspired by the 80s video arcade, British handbag label Anya Hindmarch put on display their latest autumn accessories inside the windows of the brand's Madison Avenue boutique. With pixelated figures catwalking across a giant blue monitor, passersby can get a glimpse of the designer's fall offerings while getting a nostalgia hit of the 80s. And speaking of a nostalgic throwback, next door neighbor Tory Burch is taking inspiration from the 60s with their new shoe collection titled Gigi. Have a look at both stores after the break.
The window decorations at the Dolce & Gabbana Children boutique on Madison Ave brought a smile to my face when I passed by earlier this week. With bright and cheery hand drawn kids illustrations and beach accessories used as window props, the entire store looked playful and completely in season. But if you're not into fun in the sun beach looks for your lil' ones, turn your attention to the Sonia Rykiel UES boutique two doors up, which put on display an eye-catching, vibrant red visual. Hermès commissioned South Dakota-based sculptor John Lopez to decorate the brand's New York City flagship windows. The artist, known for building western and rodeo-themed animal sculptures using scrap metals, magically turned the Madison Avenue storefront windows into a western frontier. The whole visual is extraordinary and definitely worth a personal visit, not just for the sculptures, but for the pretty pretty bags.
Leather goods brand Coach turns 75 this year. To celebrate the big anniversary, the company has created a special window display using their iconic logo hangtags. These windows can be seen at most Coach stores worldwide including the 57th Street location you see above. See more close-up photos from this boutique after the break.
Italian fashion house Fendi and UK-based glass and light artist Chris Wood have collaborated on a new window installation. Entitled Hues of Light, the artist created wondrous window displays for all of Fendi's boutiques using dichroic transparent materials to project a rainbow of colors and light wavelengths. For New Yorkers, this museum exhibition-like installation can be seen at Fendi's 57th Street flagship store. Located side by side on 57th Street, Miu Miu and Burberry are currently in Pre-Fall '16 season. But instead of showcasing their latest collections with elaborate displays, both boutiques are letting their clothes and accessories do all the talking (and showing).
