If you've ever had a chance to shop at one of Vivienne Westwood's sample sales before, you'll probably be familiar with the layout of the merch and corresponding discounts. Just like their previous events, shoppers will find womenswear placed on the left, menswear on the right, and handbags/accessories in the center of the venue. But what makes this week's sale a tad different is the overall selection (hint: there were tons of summery styles) and the fact that there were hardly any shoes.
In the womenswear section, markdowns were divided into two categories: 60% off on recent collections and 90% off on older seasons. Hanging on the numerous racks, I found plenty of the designer's signature cues like red tartans, drapey detailing, graphic stripes and prints. Sizes were generally available from 36 to 48 but shoppers with broader fits (40~46) will have better luck at this sale as items were more accessible in those sizes.
As I mentioned earlier, shoes were pretty much non-existent at the preview and I was told there wouldn't be any additional shipments coming in before the sale begins. But to make up for this disappointment, the event does have on hand a wide variety of bags, SLGs, and other accessories at half off. For example, in the leather goods area, I came across a bow-detailed crossbody bag discounted to $177.50 (originally $355 & 15th photo below), a blush pink cosmetic case priced $97.50 (originally $195 & 17th photo below), a logo print crossbody bag priced $205 (originally $410), a Jungle Croc circular bag for $305 (originally $610 & photo above), and a black bow top handle bag priced $230 (currently sold at Zappos for $581.90). Furthermore, the handbag section had a healthy mixture of travel bags, beach totes, leather satchels, shopper totes, hobos, printed pouches, chain strap shoulder bags, and more.
Situated near the leather goods were other accessories like scarves, beach towels, gloves, hats, phone cases, socks, keychains, swimsuits, umbrellas, and sunglasses. Everything here was marked down half off.
Menswear, discounted either 60% or 90% off, consisted of blazers in different hues and prints, as well as sweatshirts, tees, polos, pants, sweaters, shirts, shorts, casual jackets, and shoes.
When I dropped by yesterday for the preview, the sale organizers weren't finished setting up, so fellow Mizhattanites should expect an even larger selection than what is pictured below. The sample sale occasionally does offer further discounts towards the end, so check back on the comment section of this article for a possible update on additional markdowns.
