Since early this year, the Short Hills Mall in New Jersey has put up a giant orange box announcing the anticipated arrival of Hermès. Since then, everyone has been speculating when the new store will be unveiled. I just received word that the estimated date for the opening will be October 21st (give or take a day depending on final preps). So what does this mean for Mizhattanites? Well, for starters, it means you can treat yourself to a day of luxury shopping by making a fabulous weekend trip to Short Hills. The mall features other posh brands like Chanel, Dior, and Van Cleef & Arpels. In addition and more importantly, you have the NJ perk of not having to pay sales tax on RTW & shoes (I heard silk scarves are also included). It's only a small fraction of the retail value but, when it's Hermès, even those small fractions can quickly add up to your benefit. So, if you're planning to splurge on Hermès' fall/winter collection, I suggest giving New Jersey a try. The new Hermès store will be located on the upper level near Neiman Marcus.
