*SAMPLE SALE* Wrap Yourself in DVF

My Monday morning started at the Diane von Furstenberg sample sale. But before I start this review, I would like to inform my fellow Mizhattanites that the sale will open to the public sometime after 12pm today. So read over this report then, if you're willing to brave today's frigid temps, run over to 260 5th Ave. Now, back to today's morning press preview.

Per usual, today's Diane von Furstenberg sample sale was packed. Shoppers busy picking away at merchandise and loud party music created a cacophony of noise, waking me up from my still groggy state. With this jolt to my senses, I started my search in the RTW racks. Even though the press preview crowd wasn't massive, it was difficult to have an earnest look at each item due to the human traffic jams in each aisle. But you gotta do what you gotta do, right? So, here's what I found. Every gal's favorite Diane von Furstenberg's signature jersey wrap dresses along with some other party frocks in geometrics, grids, and polka dot patterns were available. I saw this New Newsy dress on one of the racks. There were some solid pieces as well. I found a few classic winter peacoats (9th photo below) and cape styles in solid hues. If you really look thoroughly, you'll find gems like a simple black knee length skirt. Coats were $350, cocktail dresses were $275, wrap dresses were $150, jackets were $125, sweaters were $80, skirts were $80, and samples/damaged items were $50 & $40. Find the full price list at the end of this article.

No different from the last DVF sample sale in June, shoppers are permitted to bring 10 items into the fitting rooms. There was hardly anyone waiting for the fitting room this morning, but don't forget that the DVF sample sale is infamous for long wait times.

Moving to the accessory tables, I noticed that there seemed to be less variety & merchandise. An assortment of bags, small leather goods, scarves, and belts were available, but compared to the previous sales, the accessory area was relatively low on inventory. Nonetheless, I found some great deals in the handbag section. The Brenda canvas tote--currently selling online at full price ($175)--was $60 at this sale. I spotted the Harper Connect leather bag (last photo below) for $250. It is currently selling for $695 online. The scarves section, was my favorite part of this sale. They were $65 each and those graphic floral & geometric prints in eye-popping colors could be a great way to spruce up last year's coat.

Finally, remember that the DVF sample sale has always dropped prices as the sale progressed. I doubt it will be different this time. Today's preview was pretty crowded and I'm almost certain that there will be chaos later today and throughout tomorrow. If you are looking for bigger bargains and don't mind bin diving, I recommend dropping by later in the week to avoid the crowds and to snag a few items at greater discounts.

  2. I don't really wear/need a lot of prints. Are there any dresses similar to the ones in this post? I have recently discovered an affection for shimmer and sequins. :) http://www.mizhattan.com/2011/09/glistening-evening.html

  5. Like Miz says it was crazy this morning. I waited over 1hr in the cold to get in. It was packed inside and I had to hunker to get around.

  6. Hi! Was the Harper definitely the connect and not the regular Harper Day bag without the ipad case? Was it only available in white? DYING for this bag! Thanks for the great coverage as usual!!
