*SAMPLE SALE* Buckle Up!

Known for their classic silhouette and signature buckle, French brand Roger Vivier kicked off their spring sample sale starting today. Just like their first sale in 2011, Soiffer Haskin played host to the event. But unlike 2011, this sale drew a record crowd of Vivier fans looking to add the house's ladylike designs to their spring wardrobe. So, buckle up ladies. Things are about to get wild!

Roger Vivier sits as one of the top master designers of luxe footwear. The brand graced the soles of many legendary style icons like Catherine Deneuve, Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren, Jackie Kennedy, and Inès de La Fressange for over 60 years. This may be one of the many reasons why so many shoppers queued up from the break of dawn today. The line started growing well before sunrise and stretched all the way down 9th Ave and around to 32nd St. By the time the sale opened to the public at 10am, I was told that there was well over 900 shoppers waiting in line.

Inside, there was an air of quiet chaos on the 2nd floor of Soiffer Haskin. Like their last sale, the whole showroom was full of red boxes, each topped with Vivier stunners. For a shoe-lover like myself, I was giddy with glee! Each shoe was individually priced with markdowns ranging between 50~65% off retail. Vivier iconics such as Gommette ballerinas and Belle Viviers were where the bulk of the crowd congregated. Prices for these coveted pairs were between $275~$350. But be aware, sizes were going very quickly. I was told by a fellow Mizhattanite, who entered the sale around 11am, that most of the smaller sizes were gone by the time she started shopping. Other than classic buckles, there were many other different styles to choose from. Embellished evening sandals, satin pumps, strappy sandals, knee-high boots, and Rose N Rolls were all stacked neatly on their appropriate red boxes. Prices for Rose N Rolls were around $600 and I spotted them in various materials like metallics, sequins, and woven straw.

Shoppers interested in bags and wallets will be happy to know that the whole right side of the venue was dedicated to handbags and small accessories. From playful Cut-Up bags to understated Miss Viv shoulder bags, tables and wire shelves full of Vivier handbags filled the space. Prices for handbags were also listed individually, but I found a suede Miss Viv (16th photo below) and Cut-Up bags (10th photo below) priced at $825. Small leather accessories were comprised of wallets & belts and were located near the cashier counter.

For those thinking of dropping by tomorrow, I was told there will not be any restocking. Also, there is a 10 item per person limit this year. Boo~

I'm sure many of you already know Roger Vivier's legacy of luxury and couture craftsmanship, but I thought I would mention that the French shoe label launched a new coffee table book this month to celebrate the history and artistry of the eponymous brand. The book features everything from vintage Vivier to more recent works by Bruno Frisoni. For Vivier fans far and wide, it's definitely worth a read.

  1. Hi Miz, do you think they will restock or add in some other styles?

  2. If you wear size 40 or 41 you will be in luck on Saturday. I was there when they closed on Friday and those sizes were there in every shoe I liked (too bad I don't wear that size!). There are still plenty of shoes, plenty of styles and plenty of sizes, but the size and style and color you like, may or may not all align. There were also many handbags in many styles and sizes. I got there about 5:15 and had to wait a bit, but enjoyed speaking to my fellow shoe lovers on the line. It was a beautiful day. I bought one pair of shoes. I can't wait to wear them!

  3. I went today, No line. No size 5s. In sea of red boxes, found literally 1 pair I liked which I bought. Pump was $275. Bigger sizes are lucky to choose from plenty. Bags were pricey, cheapest $300s & mostly $800 range.
