When it comes to casual cool, trust Alexander Wang. This is particularly important when dressing for fall as there is no place quite like the Alexander Wang sample sale to satisfy your style needs (plus your wallet will thank you). So, to get some edgy modern staples, I dropped by the first day of the designer's sample sale in Soho. Just like I had imagined, the sale floor was chock full of Wang's merchandise. It was indeed a Wangster's paradise.
Before I continue my review, there is one thing I need to mention. The first day of this 6-day long Alexander Wang sample sale is for press & VIPs only. Therefore, I was asked not to take any pictures from inside the sale. But thanks to some intrepid fellow Mizhattanites who sent in some covert photos, I was able to complete this review with a handful of fantastic images. So a BIG thanks goes out to everyone who emailed me!
Now, let's go on with the review. If you're planning to brave the long wait and attend the sale tomorrow, here's what you should expect from the handbag section. A variety of Rocco duffles, Pelican satchels, Emile totes, Ingrid satchels, and small leather goods were available for bag lovers. When I was there, Alexander Wang's most coveted Roccos were only available in maple & brown. Prices on handbags were the same as last year. Clutches were $250, small bags were $300, mediums were $350, and large sizes were $400.
The shoe table was comprised of sandals, leather sneakers, platform pumps, knee-high boots, kitten heel sandals, and suede booties. Sizes were available from 35~41. While the selection of footwear was a bit disappointing, you'll be happy to know that everything in the shoe section was priced at $175. Definitely a deal and a must stop-by.
Finally, RTW. Grunge-inspired looks are making a big comeback for autumn. I found lots of edgy outfits you could wear to embrace this 90s trend. But for those feeling less-than-bold, there were also many understated designs and "wear-with-everything" office basics. To mention a few, I spotted black tailored blazers, long sleeve sweaters, button-down shirts, feather-weight knits, casual shorts, leather jackets, and black bustier tops. Prices on RTW differed depending on the category. Tops were $140 while bottoms were $150. Sweaters were priced $150, outerwear was $250, and dresses were $175. Unsurprisingly, items from the T by Alexander Wang line was priced lower. T-shirts were $35, sweaters & skirts were $70, bras were $35, and coats were $125. And speaking of affordable finds, plastic sample bins were also available. Frugal shoppers will be able to find $15 knits, $50 RTWs, and $100 leather combos.
If last November's Alexander Wang sample sale & today's madness are any sort of indicators, tomorrow's opening will be absolutely chaotic. I suggest getting there no later than 7am if you want to shop a better and wider selection. A die-hard Wangster should also drop by several times throughout the sale as further markdowns and additional inventory are expected.

are they checking names at the door - or do you think we can sneak in?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if they extended the hours but today's sale was supposed to end at 1pm.
Deletethank you for the reporting what would i do without you
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure!
DeleteThanks for your review. Is it possible to use credit card? Or should I pay by cash?
ReplyDeleteCredit cards are accepted.
DeleteI am curious if there will be plenty of Roccos to go around! Or if they will replenish these bags. Any idea? Also, do they have the smaller Rockie bag available? I can't decide if I want to be part of the madness tomorrow morning or give things a day to settle down!!! AHH Thanks for the update btw ;)
ReplyDeleteI was told more handbags will be added. There were no Rockie bags at today's preview.
DeleteGreat, thank you!!!!
DeleteHi - I was wondering if there were any Robyn bags today?
ReplyDeletethank you!
No Robyn bags but I was told a new shipment of handbags will be coming in. Maybe you'll get lucky!
DeleteOf all the notable sample sale covering websites, you're the only one to get this scoop. How do you consistently accomplish this feat?? I'm just in awe. You must tell us all how you get into all these fabulous sales.
ReplyDeleteOh that's very kind of you to say. But I have to give credit to the readers who sent in photos. Without them, this article would have been seriously lacking.
Deletecan i pay cash? thanks!!
ReplyDeleteOn the official flyer it says "Credit cards accepted". There is no mention of cash but I don't see why they shouldn't.
DeleteAre runway items available?
ReplyDeleteHi, Is the black Emile bag all leather? It looks like fabric on the picture but I'm not sure. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI think it was charcoal canvas and leather.
Deletehow much is the backpack at the top of the first image?
ReplyDeletethe "golf" bag.
DeleteI believe they were $400.
DeleteOmg I am in front of Alexander wang sample sale now, it's 1:45AM, no body is here can't believe it I am the first one. I hope when I got in there are Plenty of rockie bags.^^
ReplyDeleteWow, congrats! Though I didn't see any Rockies yesterday, I hope you find them today. Good luck!
DeleteHow is the wait to get in today?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the line is very long. It wrapped around the corner and went down 3 full blocks this morning.
Deletewhat's the best time to hit up this sale today (to avoid as much of a line as possible)?
ReplyDeleteProbably later this afternoon but before the after work rush hour.
DeleteI was there at 7am and I did get a black textured rocco bag. There is a 2 bag limit. Once you get inside there is a line to the left...slowwww moving for the bags. Not sure the status of how many of what were left bc they had the stock stored under the table. Sales girls help you with the bags. It is not really a free for all and you can not walk around with them. Over all I am very excited with my purchase. I was not expecting to score black being that only brown was spotted yesterday. I might have to check back during the week for new merch! Def recommend this sale!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your insight! Congrats & enjoy your new bag!
DeleteI got there at 7am this morning, waited until about 8:30ish when they slowly started letting people in. I'd say it took about 20 min from when they opened, for me to get in. Once inside, there's a separate line for bags on the left, so if that's what you want, you need to get in line for the bags as soon as you get in. I got a black velvet Rocco mini duffle for $400. Very happy with the purchase. Once I came out, the line was insane. If you can, I'd suggest going as early as possible. Maybe by 6:30am.
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting us know. I really appreciate it.
DeleteCorrection, the bag I got was $350 before tax.
DeleteNew bags & additional merchandise added at the Alexander Wang sample sale today. Head on over!
ReplyDeleteSame styles from yesterday? Or additional styles and colors? Thanks!
DeleteA reader just emailed me that there were new styles and colors but she wasn't specific.
DeleteI just heard from 260 Sample Sale that they added new styles of bags.
DeleteAh...might have to revisit tomorrow! Thanks again :)
DeleteWhat's the line looking like now?
ReplyDeleteThe line is very manageable today.
DeleteI know it's early...but do you suspect they will do price reductions on Friday? It seems like they have more stock than in the past. Thank you as always for the fab reporting!
ReplyDeletexx
I'm not exactly sure when they'll slash prices but I will definitely keep you updated.
DeleteAdditional markdowns started today.
ReplyDeleteWhat bags are left?
ReplyDeleteWhen I went this afternoon I saw a few Rocco and Emilie
DeleteWhat color emiles? When I went this morning at 10am there was only a clear Rocco and the canvas Emile and grey suede Emile.
Deleteany idea how much the markdowns are - is it worth it? $500 for a jacket/coat is a bit steep
ReplyDeletehi are there any markdowns on the small wallets/accessories that were $90? thanks!
ReplyDeleteAny mark downs on shoes?
ReplyDeletejust left sale.. shoes are all still 175.
ReplyDeleteAre there any coats left?
ReplyDeleteYep. I saw a few hanging around this afternoon.
