*SAMPLE SALE* OXO

I rarely get excited about a sample sale that's not fashion-related but OXO's annual event is an exception. I'm sure you already know OXO is the leading brand when it comes to creating well-made cooking tools and household products. Well, their sample sale held every year at the company's corporate showroom is beyond any kitchen connoisseur's or homemaker's wildest dream. With prices starting as low as $1(!), I was able to find heaps and mounds of OXO's amazing products at giveaway prices at last year's sale.

MizAdvice: Make sure to bring your own bag as the sale doesn't provide a shopping bag for shoppers. And trust me, you'll want to grab everything!

Where: 601 W. 26th St. (bet. 11th & 12th Ave.), 10th Floor

When: Thursday, March 27th through Friday, March 28th. 10am~5pm

    1. They have inventory that they bring out from their storage area next to their office. Whatever is there in the large cardboard boxes is it. Nothing more.

  6. Is this sample sale stroller friendly or do you advise to leave the stroller at home?

    1. This sample sale is the antithesis of a stroller-friendly sale. Heck, it isn't baby-friendly at all. The sale is in the hallway with tables lined up on either side of the wall. Waves and waves of other company employees show up and it gets suffocatingly crowded. Plus the sharp items are definitely a hazard to your precious child.

  9. I stopped by the sale this morning around 10:30 & the place was a madhouse !
Maybe because they had just opened, but there were wall to wall people and the line to check out was at least an hour long. I didn't get anything (didn't have time for the line), but there were some good deals to be had for those who have patience & time. Brooms & mops were $4-$6, micro fiber dusters under $6. There wasn't as big a selection of items this time as in the past, which was disappointing.

  10. sale did not seem worth it. maybe saw one item for $1, so prices def skew higher. place was so packed and hoarders everywhere.
prob not worth it to go so far west in the cold unless you are fairly close by in the area or work in that bldg. it was suffocatingly crowded and hot.

    1. I agree. It was really uncomfortable. And not much to buy. There actually were a lot of people there that looked like they worked in the building (no coats).

    2. What were the more interesting items that you saw available there? Just wondering if it's worth the trek on such a cold day. I'm interested in baking utensils and baby/tot items. Thanks!

    3. I didn't see much in the way of baking utensils (I too was hoping to find some) there were a few measuring tins. There was a table in the back with baby items. There was mostly containers of various sizes. Sippy straws & something called sippy cup cleaners. I definitely would not bring a kid to this sale. There was one woman there with a baby who was screaming nonstop. It's just too cramped and hot for a kid.

    1. They will be restocking tomorrow. The boxes are all a mix of stuff. Even the employees don't know what's inside.

  12. I was there for about three hours this morning. It was certainly a madhouse earlier on, but things died down a little, then picked up again during the lunch hour rush, then died a bit again. The key here is to invest time and basically stalk the employees who keep restocking and bringing out new boxes. As for available items, there were a lot of kitchen gadgets and tools such as measuring cups, scoops, ice cream scoopers, spatulas, etc. Cleaning supplies and kid items followed in terms of quantity, with storage containers being the least in stock.

There was a much bigger selection of baby and kid items earlier in the morning, but that was pretty depleted by 2pm (when I left). Perhaps they might restock those again overnight? In addition they had kid booster seats and some bigger things as well (a high chair I think?).

Everything was on average about 45~50% off full price. The real steals (if you managed to get your hands on them) were the 9-piece nesting sets, salad spinners, and the air-tight pop containers. They had some cute lunch bento kits as well.

Overall yes, it was crowded and hectic, but if you take your time and look carefully, you'll save 50% overall on amazing items (one warning, don't buy the ice scream scoop though. After buying it, I came home and looked up reviews, all of which were horrible).

Oh and please dear lord people, stop bring your kids and dogs to these sales. Why would you ever risk endangering them amidst all the sample sale craziness??

  13. I thought the selection in the past was much better. I was able to get up to 70% off in last year's sale, but this time, they were mostly 40-50%. Some of the items I brought previously was marked up by one or two dollars. They are definitely restocking, but no one can really tell you what will be available because even the staff doesn't know. I would go only if you are in need of something. I went at around 4pm and it wasn't crowded and there was no line to pay.

On a side note...people brought kids and dogs to...12th Avenue...for kitchen gadgets?? Wow.
