*SALE HUNT* Checking out C. Wonder's Closing Sale

By now, I'm sure you know that Chris Burch's preppy lifestyle brand C. Wonder is going kaput. The first signs of trouble for the moderately priced chain began last November when the company pulled the plug on 20 of its 32 stores. Then earlier this month, C. Wonder made the ongoing shutting down speculations reality by announcing their closing. And, as we all know, a company going out of business can only mean one thing for bargain hunters--BIG discounts. Wondering what kinds of deals shoppers are able to get, I dropped by C. Wonder's Flatiron store yesterday to check out their liquidation sale.

Inside C. Wonder's Flatiron location, the label's closing sale was well underway. I was quite surprised how bustling the crowds were when I stopped by. With every single item now discounted an additional 75% off the lowest marked price, bargain-hungry shoppers were busy snatching up the brand's quirky fun designs.

In the apparel section, I spotted everything from tuxedo jackets and quilted jackets to V-neck sweaters and printed silk blouses displayed on walls and racks. As I mentioned earlier, all merchandise was marked down an additional 75% off. For instance, stars-printed silk blouses were now $32, navy tuxedo jackets were $62, skinny jeans were around $30, and floral embroidered tops were $22. While browsing the goods, I found a few items like sleeveless silk tops and mini cotton skirts that would be perfect come spring.

Shoes and handbags were plentiful but going fast with many shoppers taking full advantage of the 75% discount. In addition, houseware products were also very popular amongst yesterday's shopping crowd. I spotted several ladies grabbing as much as they could of the monogram porcelain square dishes, mini candles, linen cocktail napkins, cheese boards, and pet bowls. And speaking of items flying off the shelves, furnishings and decorations used inside the store such as mannequins, tables, and trays also had sold stickers on them.

Though the selection isn't as abundant, the same discount is currently being offered on C. Wonder's online store but know that the website is reportedly set to shutter at the end of this week.

If you decide to stop by one of their three NYC locations, keep in mind that you might have to brave a line at the cash register as I found the checkout queue quite long when I dropped by. Supposedly, the Columbus Circle and Flatiron stores plan to shut down for good in two weeks or so while the Soho branch will be the last store to close sometime next month. It may not be a bad idea to make a trip to one of these stores when you can since discounts are simply too good to pass up. Besides, the future look bleak when it comes to attending another C. Wonder sample sale.

  3. I knew some of the stores were closing but didn't think all of the stores would close eventually? I was at the store on 59th street Sunday when the discount was 50% and when I went back yesterday, you knew the end was near. The store was almost empty. C.Wonder was soooo good to me. Sad to see it go :(
