*SALE HUNT* Chanel Boutique Sale

When it comes to end-of-season boutique sales, Chanel has always been known to make a fashionably late grand entrance, and it is no different this time around. For S/S '15, the House of Coco's highly-anticipated seasonal markdowns will begin next Tuesday, June 23rd. Handbags, as usual, will not go on sale but shoppers will be able to save 40% off on the Parisian brand's apparel and shoes. For those who like to partake in the bargains before the public sale begins, the company's pre-sale will take place starting this Friday, June 19th.

  1. Hi Miz! Do you have any advice on how to score jewelry on sale? I know it does go on sale semi-unofficially in department stores. I always hear about SAs from non NY stores (PA, Arizona, etc) offer things like from the cruise collection but the problem is the SAs here in NY insist they don't have jewelry on sale :(

    1. Hi Nara,

Chanel boutique sales usually have their seasonal jewelry collection on sale but it's very limited in selection. No sure why the NYC SAs would say they don't offer them on sale unless they were already sold out.

  2. Hi Mizhattan & Nara,

To help answer that question above re: seasonal jewelry, most of the times, especially in NYC stores, the jewelry sells out. In places like PA and AZ, you will have clients who are not willing to spend full retail on what is essentially costume jewelry, hence the random spotting of sale jewelry in non-NYC locales.

Compound that with employees purchases (yes, they tend to buy on sale like any other person) and loyal NYC clients who may have been eyeing a certain piece and somehow they got the info that it will be marked down, their SA will likely call them for the guaranteed-sale and pre-sell it to them.

Officially the Chanel Sale does not open to the public until next Wednesday (I was told by my friend who works there), but if you go in - even today and kindly ask (stress on kindly) chances are you can score AHEAD of the masses. To be honest, most items will have been pre-sold to existing clients who have already called in or spoken to their SA's that they will purchase style X, Y and Z in their size and various color ways.

If you go and find something you like today, you will not be able to take it home with you until Monday - so please keep that in mind. The plus side is you get what you want in the color way you want but you have to return to take home on Monday. Also, another down side of purchasing without seeing and trying on actual items (bc let's face it, Chanel fever hits us all and makes us do crazy things sometimes) is that all sale is final sale; no returns nor exchanges so it's best to be positively sure what you want is really…what you want because while it is 40% off, it's still very, very expensive.

Another option if you're willing to train or drive out there is to try the Chanel boutique within Hirschleifers at the Americana Manhasset, they start their sale a day later than the NYC boutiques (they start on the 24th) and they usually have more jewelry options available marginally longer than NYC.

    I hope this helps!

Mizhattan - I can send you some photos of items I know to be on sale if you would like?

As always, thank you very much Mizhattan for always having such a great and informational resource at hand for us - it is always such a pleasure to read your blog and I am so thankful! You are wonderful!

    Big hugs!

    2. What type of jewelry typically goes on sale?

    3. Thank you so much for such a detailed reply A. Anonymous! You're right, I think it's probably for the best to just save up for a few classic styles and buy at Duty Free or with VAT refund in EU. A few items that i saw on sale still cost more than full price pearl drop earrings.

  3. Dear Anonymous @4:04pm,

Usually the type of jewelry that goes on sale is the piece that no one really wants. Last time there was a sale, it was the jewelry that looked like two pieces of clear plastic vinyl sandwiching a cheap-looking interlocking C-logo held together with what looked like coral colored yarn and the coke-can brooch, which was still, astoundingly expensive even on sale. There was also the grocery enamel cuff (here is an image of it I found online http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHANEL-Supermarket-LARGE-Shopping-Center-Grocery-Pearls-Icons-Cuff-Bracelet-NIB-/171832138197?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2801fe59d5) and this was also on sale (still, it was very expensive). It's usually the very kitschy items that even the hard-core collectors won't buy - you are not really missing out much.

When you spot the random sighting of pretty pearl drop earrings or what not (I recall from a few seasons back Bergdorf's supposedly had a lovely pink enamel flower with a small pearl drop on sale - it was the only one) that is usually due to an SA hiding it for their client (I have friends who work at the major luxury department stores in NYC tell me the horror stories of trying to find an item for a client to purchase at full retail but can't find it because even if the system shows it is available in their store, no one, not even the stock associates can locate it) or it honestly being misplaced but then found during Inventory or a full sweep of the back stock.

All this said, if you really wanted jewelry from Chanel, you should know two thing:
    1) All of it is costume jewelry (unless you are purchasing from their fine jewelry line) you are paying luxury prices for faux pearls, non-gold/non-silver metals, and mainly for the brand name. Please be aware of this as many people don't realize this as Chanel is known for their pearls (albeit faux pearls). While not-genuine-pearls or precious metals, it is still beautifully made and clearly very covetable.

    2) Their cuffs are very small - so if you have a larger wrist or medium sized wrist, it is strongly advised you try on before purchasing.

Something interesting to note is that Chanel has some Fresh Water Pearls in their costume jewelry line…this spikes their already very, very expensive prices even higher. However, most of the styles for these real pearls is for a more mature crowd and even then, I am not sure how well it will do.

At the end of the day, if what you want is to own some Chanel jewelry, unless you are willing to take your bets buying second hand, I would recommend just biting the bullet, saving money specifically for a piece, and buying what you really want that you know will make you very happy. Either that or if you have a friend who works for the company who will buy something for you all the better!

    I hope this helps!
