*SAMPLE SALE* Shop Well at Madewell

Summer is officially here! That means the upcoming weeks and months will be filled with outdoor barbecues, weekend road trips, and summer Friday activities. In case anyone needs to stock up on breezy weekend staples, Madewell, the go-to source for boyish casual wear, is finally getting the attention it deserves by throwing its very own standalone sample sale in SoHo this week. I, for one, have been eyeing one particular pair of jeans from Madewell so I stopped by their F&F preview to see if I could score a deal or two. So, let's see how well it turned out.

The Madewell sample sale on Wooster St. was neatly organized and stocked full of women's apparel, shoes, bags, jewelry, and accessories. My first destination was the denim section and there I found six racks of Madewell jeans. Sizes ranged from 24 through 32 and styles were available in High Riser Skinny Skinny, The Perfect Summer Jeans, Skinny Skinny, The Boyjeans, and The Slim Boyjean. Denims were priced $40 each which I thought was a great deal. And, in case anyone is wondering, I did find the pair I was looking for. Yay!

Adjacent to the jeans was a large volume of cotton t-shirts and tanks in a multitude of colors (photo above). As a side note, big applause to whoever organized these racks. The person(s) did a stellar job color arranging from lightest to darkest! T-shirts and tanks were priced $15 and there were different styles like tissue-weight V-necks, basic round-necks, slouchy scoop tees, and pocket tanks. Other items in the tops section included striped long-sleeves, casual button-down shirts, summer sweaters, denim shirts, plaid shirts, and formal designs like silk blouses, evening laces, and embellished tops. Discounts for elaborate tops were priced either at $25 or $40 depending on the design. Sizes were available from XS to XL.

Dresses and rompers were available for $30 and $60. From bohemian floral print frocks to billowy maxis, there were six racks of summery dresses and rompers to search through.

Moving to accessories, I counted ten racks of shoes in sizes 6 through 10. Prices for footwear were $10~$130. In addition, other accessories such as bags, straw hats, socks, belts, wallets, swimsuits, and iPhone cases were organized in fourteen large plastic bins. Prices started at $10 for socks and went up to $130 for large leather bags. Furthermore, located near the registers were four trays of eyewear and four trays of jewelry. Sunglasses (the selection included clip-on frames, Sunday Somewhere, and headliner sunglasses) and eyeglasses were $20 while Madewell jewelry pieces were $20 & under.

As a final note, if you want to shop well, my MizAdvice is to do some price research via the brand's online store while you do your shopping. Since discounts are set by category, some items may be absolute steals while others might just be good bargains. Also, keep in mind there is no changing area so make sure to dress accordingly. As always, the full price list is located at the end of this article.

  4. Thanks so much for your report Miz! Especially the detailed price list. With every item individually marked this wasn't an easy task.

I went yesterday and noticed some items/sizes already selling out although there is a huge selection overall. I looked primarily at tops and dresses and most things seemed to be a Medium. Hats and swimwear were going quick. Staff did say they have more items in the basement but not sure what categories they'll be restocking.

  6. I stopped by this afternoon. Scored a pair of jeans I was eyeing in the stores for $28, a full hundred bucks discounted from the original price. No more shoes in size 8. There are still a lot of great stuff, I think, especially if you're looking for basic long sleeve or short sleeve tees or standard jeans. Not that many button ups.
