*SAMPLE SALE* Alexander McQueen

Anglophiles, sophisticated sartorialists, and fabulous fashionistas take note because there is a British invasion headed our way! Starting Tuesday, November 10th, the Alexander McQueen sample sale will cross the pond and take over NYC. The 3-day long bargain event will feature up to 80% off on womenswear, menswear, and accessories from Sarah Burton and design co. At their sample sale last year, savvy bargain shoppers were treated to $100 silk skull scarves, $150 wallets, $100~$350 shoes, $150~$1000 bags, and gorgeous couture gowns in the 4-digit price range. In addition, the queue to get in was surprisingly manageable perhaps due to the sale being held in August during a lull in sample sale shopping. Will this year's event draw as big of a turnout as Kering's sister brand Gucci? Probably not, but I still highly suggest you bring your A-game.

Where: 123 W. 18th St. (bet. 6th & 7th Ave.), 5th Floor

When: Tuesday, November 10th, 10am~7pm
Wednesday, November 11th, 9am~6:30pm
Thursday, November 12th, 9am~5pm

    1. Last sale had only 2 in leather and 1 in exotic skin.

    2. They had a bunch in white, exotic and another color I can't recall. But like all the other good stuff they went very quickly.

    3. Thanks so much! Do you remember the pricing on them?

    4. I believe the large white Heroine was $1,000 (not sure if it was also exotic).

    5. are you looking for the open tote or the satchel tote? The satchel style had lots in basic white, tan and a few in exotic.

The open tote had only 2 - 1 in black and 1 in tan - 1 in snake skin.

The open tote was $500 in black or tan - $1200 for the snake skin.

    6. The Satchel style was $1000 and up

    1. I'm going with 6-7am just because of what happened at Hermes and Gucci. This year's sale is at Met Pavilion not Soiffer so the check-in will take much longer. If they enforce elevator only rule then it can take 1.5hrs for just 30ppl to get inside. Having said that, last year was pretty tame in the morning.

    2. the line really started around 3-4 last year. It was pretty well stocked but for a few things that sold out within an hour. I was 5th in and it became a mad house by the bags and accessories area.

Scarves, gloves, $300-$500 totes, rings, wallets, necklaces were sold out to the first bunch.

VIP is allowed in from 8am.

Not sure how the turn out is going to be this year because after the first reports came in last year the line tripled in size.

People were not sure what to expect but now people are aware that the prices will be pretty low.

I rather wait in the morning and be first in then wait half a day after stuff has sold out.

Plus the 5th floor is usually smaller then the main area of soiffer so they might be letting ppl in smaller groups and no time limit to shop.

      Good luck!

  6. depends on what ur looking for. . Scarves, wallets, rings, necklaces, humming bird clutches and folk totes sold out to the first group in last year. All other stuff was stocked well. Don't know if this sale will be better stocked or not

      Delete
    2. There were some beautiful ones if you were the first twenty or so in, but by the time I left at around 10 there were mostly exotic lefts. Solid blue, yellow python skin. Employees stated no backstock.

  26. If anyone is going after work please let me know how the line is after 5pm thank you!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I got in line at 5:15 and was around the twentieth in at 9:30 after the employees got first pickings at 8:00.

Bags: When I got in, there was still a large assortment of knuckle clutches, including more elaborate ones with pearls and stud designs going for $550. However, by 10:00 am they were all sold out and employees stated they had no backstock. What remained when I left was strictly exotics, going for $700, mostly solid color blue, green ,and yellow python ones. The knuckle clutches were largely replaced with britannia clutches, which there were a large assortment of. There were a lot of heroine bags in assorted colors and sizes, including a red and black print, as well as sold color blue and yellow. These were going from $400 to $1000 depending on size and skin. There were also solid silver day clutches going fro $250. I did not see any de manta clutches. Limit three per customer.

Shoes: Flats and heels were marked at $250 but I managed to snatch a pair of gold skull loafers and the register marked it as $125. When I left, there were still some pale pink skull loafers left in the 6.5,7 section but the red ones I saw were gone. About 1.5 racks of the size 7 shoes, with them mostly being heels.

Clothing: Known of the expertly tailored black blazers in the small section that I saw, there were some white ones but were mediocre at best. Jackets/blazers were going for $400.

Accessories: Classic skull enamels were going for $50, and I saw both black and white ones. Tech accessories such as iphone and ipad cases were going at $40, with a huge stock. Scarves were a large assortment, but I didn't see any of the square border skull print scarves nor dragonfly ones. Scarves were limited to 5 and marked to $150.

If your goal was primarily knuckle clutches, you are probably out of luck if they really don't have any backstock as they were already pretty much out by 10. However, there were still a ton of britannia clutches if those are your thing, as well as heroine bags.

    1. I was there at closing time. There were still tons of scarves. The heroine bags were winding down - still a few of the small size. I think there were also a few of the medium size but I don't hunk there were any of the larger size. Lots of exotics left. Also plenty of shoes. Jewelry was getting a bit sparse.

  33. I was around 70th online and got a grey python knuckle clutch, a silver black skull clutch, and pink braided leather skull clutch. They kept on putting out heroines in black and the heroine satchel with gold plate also in black. You just had to be patient bc it was one at a time and things like were snatched the second they were put out

    ReplyDelete
  34. Also the non exotic leather bags were 500, not 100 (those were exotics)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Neha, did you get your clutches today? I thought there was no restocking on clutches. I asked yesterday if everything was out and was told yes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I went this morning around 10am--no line, a few brittania clutches (mainly bright colors/embellished--I got a black white and nude Union Jack one), knuckle clutches in neon pythons including a neon blue, and a decent selection of scarves. Small heroines in white, silver, and another color that I don't remember. Decent amount of shoes, mainly heels, available in all sizes--a lot in size 37-38 surprisingly. A good amount of belts too. Enamels are still available and ~8-9 styles of sunglasses. No line when I left around 11:30.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Also, was it silver and black skull box clutch?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes... I was told the same too but then they'd put out just one from out of nowhere

      Delete
    2. Was the brittania black and nude? Or all black with silver skull? I didn't even see those yesterday and I was like 50th in line. Also the braided ones were gone as well. I got black patent splinter box clutch with gold skull, but would rather get the silver metal one if had a choice.

      Delete
  38. Yeah I was def behind you... Around 70th yesterday but hung around for 2 hours and they kept putting more out. When I first got there, there were only python ones. Then I picked up the pink braided Britannia with gold skull, the silver and black silver skull towards the end. But also saw the red flower Swarovski skull clutch and a gold metal lace over a pink leather skull clutch. I also saw large black heroines and heroine satchels in black. But again were put out one at a time and quickly snatched. Same went for scarves.. They restocked things that were supposedly sold out. Will let you know if I see anything today

  39. I was among the first 20 people inside and immediately went for the jewelry. $50 bangles and rings were great deals. Scarves had a huge selection compared to last year but I wasn't happy with the price increase to $150. I missed out on a great skull clasp wallet because I spent too long at the jewelry table but oh well, next time! There were lots of $500 large Heroine satchels and a few totes as well as $400 minis and $1,000 exotics. I noticed that stick was occasionally being replenished so if you waited 30min more merchandise would show up. People also change their mind at the register so those items eventually end up back on the tables. My friend who came much later got an amazing skull with bee ring that I didn't see despite being in the second group inside. It's definitely worth to keep checking for putbacks. You can check out Practically Haute for a full report.

  40. Does anybody know the prices of the items now that it is the last day? I'm thinking of stopping by to buy something

    ReplyDelete
  41. Discounts are small.

    Shoes $200
    Boots $300
    Select exotic $350
    Necklaces $125
    Tshirts $90
    Pants $75
    Jackets/outerwear $400
    Leather $600
    Phone cases $20.

Bags, scarves, ties, all other jewelry are all opening day prices.

    Everything is pretty picked over.

    1. As of noon today, they still had plenty of women's large square silk scarves, they are still priced at $150, and will likely not be discounted any further.

      Delete
  43. Sunglasses are now $50. There are no more knuckle clutches (there was a single green python knuckle clutch this morning, but was sold). There are still a few different styles of skull clutches left (mostly brittania crystal style, but also a python pink). An SA told me that given the overall low stock this year, they will probably not have a sample sale next year, and will have one the following year.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi Jenn,

Thank you so much for keeping everyone updated! I find the SA's comment quite interesting. Thank you for sharing. I will have to keep it in mind come 2016.

  44. I nabbed a wide enamel cuff bracelet for $50 just now.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Just came back from there: the bracelets and rings are priced the same. There were only 2 enamel skull bangles left and I bought one of them. Prices for clutches (a few skull in pink were still there), scarfs (just a few models), bags (a few peach pink mini heroins) are the same, no mark-downs. Heels are now 200, boots 300, coats - 400, jackets 300, tees are 90, down from 100))

    ReplyDelete
  46. Just left the sale. Discounts not too impressive. Shoes are $200 and $300 but the funny thing is some of them still have outlet sale prices that are like $160-$175. No discounts on scarves, rings or bracelets. $20 phone cases aren't bad if you have an old device. Meh, no reason no run over there.

    1. Hi Nara,

    2. Those aren't the outlet prices. McQueen doesn't have outlets (I think Woodbury is opening one soon). A sales associate told me the prices you saw on the items are 60% off the original prices. Which means the sample sale markdown was around 80% off. The markdown prices on the items were most likely being sold from within the company.

      Delete
    3. McQueen does have outlets, at least in Europe. I know because I shopped them personally. But either way selling at item for a lot more than sale sticker price (be it outlet or otherwise) is bs.

      Delete
  47. The funny thing is, I brought a pair of runway snake skin heels on Tuesday for $250 down from $7k and there was another pair in a different color today that my friend brought for $350 today. It was now considered a "select exotic"

And many of the flats were marked cheaper from the outlets. $125-$175 and they were still charging $200
