*SAMPLE SALE* Let's Get Crew-sing

Whether it's for someone special or to simply spoil yourself, tis the season for gifts, and the J.Crew December sample sale is the perfect place to get your holiday shopping game on. This week, the American fashion retailer and her boyish sister brand Madewell are hosting their winter sample sales at several locations around the city (just like in June). For women, this means starting your retail journey in Midtown and then swiping your MetroCard or hailing an Uber to SoHo (or the other way around). So, pick your preferred mode of transportation and let's get Crew-sing.

My sample sale hopping began early this evening and my first stop was at the J.Crew event located at 260 5th Ave. With only a small group of F&F perusing the discounted merchandise, the venue was surprisingly calm when I swung by their press preview. Inventory, this time around, seemed not as well stocked as previous years but most of you will be relieved to know prices haven't changed. You can find the full price list at the end of this article.

The womenswear section was mostly comprised of winter styles and I found quite a few items that are currently selling on the brand's online store. I spotted Excursion down vests, Stadium-cloth cocoon coats, Hamilton plaid peacoats, and double-cloth collarless coats in the outerwear aisle. Prices for these items ranged from $60 to $150. I also saw a nice assortment of tweed jackets discounted to $120 (photo above and 1st image below). Other merchandise included dresses for $30 & $60, pants for $25~$70, skirts for $25 & $40, cashmere sweaters for $90, and shirts, tanks, tees for $15~$40.

There were lots of holiday party wardrobe choices amongst the J.Crew Collection racks. Positioned nearest to the door, this long single aisle of clothes is the first group of racks shoppers will encounter starting tomorrow. From sparkly sequins to shimmery metallics and other evening embellishments, there were many head-turning designs to choose from. Prices for Collection pieces were individually marked and included cocktail dresses for $70 to $280 while skirts and pants were priced from $120 to $280. Jackets and coats (including leather and wool) were marked down to $100~$750.

Situated in the back of the sale space, women's shoes were organized on multiple racks with sizes available from 5 to 12. Flats (like Sloan d'Orsay flats and Gemma bow flats) were $65, heels (like Elsie d'Orsay pumps and Dulci jeweled pumps) were $100, and boots were $150.

Discounts on jewelry included $60 for statement necklaces, $35 for pendant necklaces, $25 for earrings and bracelets, $20 for rings, and $15 for bangles.

Other accessories such as handbags, small leather goods, socks, and belts were organized inside 21 plastic bins and placed on the left side wall. There were also two multi-tier racks of scarves nearby. Handbags were priced between $20 and $130 while the rest of the goods were either $10 or $20 depending on the item.

As for Crewcuts, J.Crew's children's line, everything was discounted down to $15~$50 and the inventory included down jackets, sweaters, skirts, pants, tees, polos, shorts, and dresses for both boys and girls.

Men's merchandise is located in an entirely different venue in SoHo. I made a quick stop at 43 Wooster Street to briefly check out the offerings and the sale space was filled with winter styles like fur-trimmed parkas, wool coats, sweaters, trousers, vests, and more. Going by a quick approximation on my part, the inventory here seemed more abundant than what was on offer for the ladies. On hand was a plethora of button-down shirts, long coats, and cashmere/wool sweaters. As far as prices go, outerwear was $60~$150, pants were $25~$70, shoes were $100, sweaters were $35~$90, and other tops were $15~$40. Check out photos 30 through 37 below for men's items.

Keep in mind, with J.Crew currently offering big holiday discounts via their online store and brick-and-mortar locations, you might not always find the best deals at this week's sample sale. So, if you want to be a smart bargain shopper, you'll want to do some price comparison on your phone while you're there. As for further markdowns, I will make sure to report back once I hear word.
