More than any other fine fragrance brand, Parisian perfumer Diptyque masterfully creates heavenly scented candles that are equal parts chic interior accents and olfactory delights. Today, at the company's sale preview, candles, home fragrances, personal fragrances, gift sets, skincare, and body care products were well stocked for friends and family to grab up and enjoy.
Let's start off with the main attraction. The standard candle selection included Baies, Oranger, Figuier, Jasmin, Mimosa, Tubéreuse, Roses, Freesia, Choisya, Verveine, Thé, Pomander, Ambre, Cyprès, Vanille, Ciel, Infini, Oud, Noisetier, Genevrier, Jonquille, Feuille de Lavande, Vetyver, Gardénia, Feu de Bois, Chevrefeuille, Maquis, Muguet, Fenouil Sauvage, and Foin Coupé. Mini-sized candles weren't as abundant compared to the standard ones but there were several choices to choose from like Baies, Mimosa, Feuille de Lavande, Cyprès, Figuier, Choisya, Santal, Ambre, Feu de Bois, and Jasmin. As for prices, standard candles were $35, minis were $20, and coffrets (set of three mini candles) were $50. Fellow Mizhattanites should keep in mind there is a purchase limit of 10 for the standard candles that are packaged in the company's white boxes.
If you're in the market for other home fragrances, there were ovals, room sprays, and diffusers available for scent connoisseurs. Ovals were $25, room sprays were $35, hourglass diffusers were $80, electric diffuser capsules were $20, hourglass refills were $30, hourglass diffusers with one refill were $100, and hourglass diffusers with two refills were $120.
Standard size holiday candles and limited editions were marked down to $35 while the mini size for both were $20. As far as the assortment goes, there were Sapin, Oliban, Épice, Hiver, Liquidambar, Resine, and Rosafolia. If you're looking to give someone a gift, there was a wide variety of gift sets on hand. Candle oval sets were $35, 70g candle duos were $40, perfume oil duos were $50, three candle coffrets were $50, five candle coffrets were $50, ten candle coffrets were $75, and 190g holder sets were $75.
Now, onto the personal fragrances. Today's inventory consisted of roll-ons for $25, travel spray refills for $30, 100ml colognes (EDT & EDP) for $50, 200ml colognes for $75, travel spray sets for $60, and anniversary sets for $95. I spotted Eau Duelle, Do Son, Eau Lente, Volutes, Tam Dao, Florabellio, Ofrésia, Philosykos, Olène, Vetyverio, Oyédo, L'Autre, L'Eau de Tarocco, Geranium Odorata, Eau Rose, Eau Mohéli, and Eau de Lavande.
Skincare and body products were well stocked and neatly organized. The selection included everything from shower gels and hand creams to moisturizers and facial water to keep your skin healthy and polished. Prices on body care ranged from $8 for soaps to $25 for hand lotions while facial products were marked down to $27~$38.
For sample sale goers, the first day of March looks like it's going to start off on the right foot. The 2016 Diptyque sample sale gets underway officially at 8am tomorrow and, if it's anything like previous years, you should brace yourself for lots and lots of commotion. Also, keep in mind the inventory will not be restocked for the public opening and, since I saw the popular scents like Baies being grabbed up pretty fast at today's VIP day, you'll want to get in line as early as possible if you had your eyes on buying up standard candles.

Thanks so much for your great review! How long was the F&F sale today?
ReplyDeleteThey close at 9pm today.
DeleteMy invite had a different start time!!! What time did it start?
ReplyDeleteThe doors opened at 8am for F&F.
DeleteI wrote a long post and it didn't post. I made it to the sale. I was told all the stock was out, but hopefully they will restock large baies candles since there weren't any left. The candle oval sets are now 49 instead of $35. They said there was a problem with the pricing in the morning. They only had four sets behind the registers in the display case. Off to the subway.
DeleteSo sorry to hear your original post didn't go through. Not sure what happened there. Nonetheless, thank you for trying again and sharing your update. If you get the chance later, I know everyone will be excited to hear about your review. Thanks for commenting!
DeleteWere there any Byredo products this time?
ReplyDeleteHi Marissa,
DeleteThere were no Byredo products this time.
Tomorrow cant come fast enough
ReplyDeleteThanks Miz for the thorough reporting!!
My pleasure! Thank you for reading!!
DeleteI was at the F&F sale around 11am and the initial crowd had subsided (I walked right in - no line). The room was well stocked, though there were a few candles I was looking for that I didn't find per years past. No John Galliano scent to be found but perhaps those were snatched up early. Also the larger colored glass line of their classic scents were mostly gone - I got the last Baies one in the large black glass. That said, there were still some of those mega jumbo sizes here and there.
ReplyDeleteOne of the best deals I think is the box of 10 mini candles - but please note - they have two different stacks of those and the scents are not the same. One had more esoteric scents that I hadn't heard much about. But the other was many of the popular scents so pay attention when you are grabbing boxes. Good luck!
Fantastic write-up and great pointer! Thank you so much for sharing your intel.
DeleteHi Miz,
ReplyDeleteIs this true?
“This morning, they were meticulously checking the list. If you’re not on it, you won’t be allowed in. They also check for your name at the checkout line when you make your purchase."
They were very strict when it came to checking names at the door. However, the second part is ridiculous. They don't check names at the register when you make a purchase.
DeleteAnon4:55pm, here. They were actually checking names at the register. There was a woman in front of me paying and I heard them ask for her name and the cashier said, is your plus one here and buyer said she came alone. Cashier said, oh I bet lots of people would love to be your plus one. I paid downstairs so i didn't have that experience.
DeleteActually Miz I don't know what time you were there but when I was (late morning) the cashier asked me my name and checked the list when I was checking out. I also heard her asking the people in front of me in line...
DeleteTenth in this morning and presumably second to pay downstairs – cashier did not ask for my name
DeleteHi! What time do you reco getting there tomorrow AM if it starts at 8 am? Do you anticipate people lining up hours before?
ReplyDeleteThere should be a sizable line in the morning. I suggest getting there before 6am if possible. If you get there past 7am, you're guaranteed to wait for a very long time as C21 will enforce a 1-in-1-out policy due to building capacity regulations.
DeleteThere will likely be people there at 430am, if not earlier. Check out previous sale reports from miz and also racked. I've never done it, but people go far as hiring line-sitters. I look forward to the line reports.
DeletePaid linesitters will be out in force tonight.. you can bet money on that
DeleteHi Miz,
ReplyDeleteDo you think they'll let non F&F in today? And was there any L'Ombre?
Hi civetta,
DeleteYes, I did see L'Ombre dans l'eau at the sale. They are located on the personal fragrance table on the second floor. As for opening to the public tonight, I can't say for certain as it is Diptyque's call.
UGHHH I want to go today!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think would happen if I just showed up.
It sounds like they're checking names off a list :(
DeleteI never saw century security this uptight. It was lockdown like fort knox.
DeleteI went today at the 8am opening. My comments:
ReplyDelete- yes there is a 10 candle limit, BUT, it is for the standard white box candles. So in theory you could max out on the 10 standards and after that, the skies the limit!
- No Galliano AT ALL and I was the 3rd person thru the door.
- there were still quite a few of the MEGA JUMBO candles, but in the second tier scents. (no Baie, Fig, or Feu de Bois remain)
- the larger candles in best selling scents with the colored vase were well stocked.
- the best deal in my opinion is the medallion/ candle combo boxes which are $35. Its like getting a free medallion! (they are housed on the shelves directly across from the cash registers)
- TONS of 3, 5, 10 mini candle sets
- there are some limited edition scents hiding in a low shelf and they remained mostly untouched because the boxes were different than usual AND to open them required a lot of work. Stock up on these as they are fantastic!
- they were VERY strict on the guest list. HOWEVER, you can return again for a second (or third) visit HINT HINT ;)
LOL tell me your name! Im only in the city today... :(
Deletehaha do they check ID?
DeleteDo they also check names when you check out?
DeleteThey do not ask for ID.
DeleteYes they ask your name when you check out but not quite sure why that happens as its after the transaction has been cleared on your credit card.
Thanks for your help :)
DeleteHumm... I really want to go today, but dont want to be turned away.. funny thing is I am a big customer of theirs and have a SA I know, but in Boston... and I fear its too late.
DeleteTotally on point! Thank you for sharing such a detailed review with your fellow readers. Much appreciated!
DeleteI dropped by and was turned away... they told the public sales starts 8am tomorrow... duh already knew that. HOw do you get on the f&f list?!?!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletedis a troll
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteIf I have to wait hours tomorrow contemplating whether to starve tonight and buy one more baies wit the $.
ReplyDeleteInvaluable review.. check!
ReplyDeleteHelpful price list.. check!
Great photos.. check!
You are the hero we all need Miz!! THANKS for everything..
So kind, thank you!
DeleteHow do I get on this list for tomorrow?? Or is it open to the public? Thanks
ReplyDeleteOpen to public today, tomorrow, Thursday at Century 21 Downtown.
DeleteI got here a little before 6am for the public opening and I'm already the 30th person or so in line. It was already wrapped around the corner to Chruch when I got here. The line is now further down Church st. I estimate around 45-50 are in line as of 6.16am.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the line update. Look forward to hearing about your haul. Good luck!
DeleteThat's a good spot. Only 30 minutes to go! Saw in Twitter that a line sitter arrived at 3am! Yikes.
DeleteUpdate! I just left 30 minutes ago. Standard candle scent range is very limited. All the popular scents are pretty much gone. The mini candle selection is also not that much better - mostly amber, feu de bois, and some jasmin.
DeleteTons of perfume, for those who wanted to score a perfume you're in luck! No accessories were available. A good number of mini candle sets were left. Great deals on the diffuser though - available in baies, roses, and figuier.
Some candles aren't shrink wrapped. Make sure to check the box has the right candle.
Good luck everyone!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to update us on the remaining inventory. Despite the low selection, I hope you made it out with everything you wanted! Thanks again!
DeleteLINE UPDATE: As of 9am, well over 200 shoppers waiting outside C21. Queue wraps Dey Street, goes down Cortlandt Street, and wraps around to Church Street. 1-in-1-out policy in effect so expect more than 2 hour wait to get inside. Here is a photo: CLICK HERE
ReplyDeleteO.M.F.G.
DeleteNo color candles or giant candles. A HUGE disappointment. They should have saved some for the public.
ReplyDeletehaha you were the 1st guy in line, right? You wanted those big candles!
DeleteWell yes, that's why I even showed up to begin with. It's all good. It was nice to meet you cutie :*)
Deletehow's the line now?
ReplyDeleteLine is still very long and selection is very limited. I doubt they will be open for all 3 days. Last year they closed sale a day early.
DeleteStupidly long and slow moving. Waiting in line for 90 minutes so far and I moved 10 metres.
DeleteI was 4th in line this AM and there a really good selection. If they are not restocking, then all the Baies are gone. Actually when I left, there was very slim pickings for the standard candles. They have a ton of holiday candles, ovals and diffusers( i hear they dont work that great) and lots of perfumes/skin products. All in all, its worth the trouble to save 42-ish% off retail--These candles never go sale.
ReplyDeleteYou must be exhausted by now for getting up so early and braving the wait. Thank you so much for commenting after all that trouble!
DeleteSo what did you end up buying ?? :)
DeleteI kinda sucks that every year the F&F sale gets cleaned out of the standard candles. When will the regular ppl can a chance to try those scents? =(
ReplyDeleteMiz- kudos to you for your indispensable help!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading!
DeleteHi all, I got Miz's permission to do this: I overspent yesterday and want to sell some of the items I bought at cost and the sales tax I paid. No gouging, no markup. If you're in NYC we can meet and outside of the city I will send you an invoice via PayPal to assure you this is above board. I have small baies candles, baies ovals, a room spray, vetyver, sapin, verveiene, There are a few more, but I I don't remember. It will be first come, first served. You have to contact me using the link in my ID. If you post interest here it won't count. I aim for transparency.
ReplyDeleteHi Deborah, could you please clarify how one should contact you?
DeleteSecond this. Where is your contact sheet?
DeleteClick on my name.
DeleteMissing something here... where is your contact info??? Could you please post here? Thanks in advance ^^
ReplyDeleteWhere is the link to your phone/email?
DeleteI left the store a little before 10 and there were a lot of holiday candles, tons of diffusers, all of skincare, lots of ovals and perfume. I was the first group to go in and did score the coveted Baies, as well as 34 Le redoute, roses, vetyver, rosamundi, ciel, accessories (snuffer, wick trimmer, and glass holder), and a few other things . Selection was good and well stocked as compared to previous sales, but I was dissapointed with availability of 300g colored candles, of which I got none. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the absence of Byredo from this year's sale. Overall, it was a good day but they will not be restocking.
ReplyDeleteOf note, C21 staff did not allow you to kneel on the floor to sort through the things you grabbed, which was annoying.
Quite the haul, congrats! Thank you for sharing!!
Deletethis post was soooo awesome!! thanks so much!! i was there this morning at about 7:15 - got in around 9, disappointed that there were no super large candles or soap but i am thrilled to have gotten 2 different of the 10 mini sets plus i found a chevrefeuille on a bottom shelf, to a replen on my philosykos and a few of the 70g candles. if there is no restock i think they will be out of candles by the end of today. i love hearing what everyone else got as well!!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure! Thank you for reading!! Yes, I would also like to hear what my fellow Mizhattanites came away with.
DeleteWent during lunch break, candles are mostly gone, only small Amber and Lavender. The perfume selection is good, I bought Do Son, Oyedo, Olene and Lierre. I also saw Tam dao but didn't like the smell. You can still go if you want perfume or skincare or home items, just not candles...
ReplyDeleteAppreciate the update!
Deletehow's the line now?
ReplyDeleteMy friend who is waiting there texted 30 - 45 minutes.
DeleteCologne 100ml $is 65 instead 50
ReplyDeleteMany standard candle of Noisetier left...
and holiday set (red, blue, green)
no hand cream
no accessories
and tons of Amber oval
I left 20 mins ago, waited 15 mins to get in, got a do son edt
Hmmmm. Plan to go in a few.. Let's see! Thank you for the updates everyone! We keep each other informed that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteany lines now?
ReplyDeleteI went at 6pm last night and had to wait on line for an hour. The only candle left other than holiday was mini patchouli. Tons of amber room spray and amber ovals left. Lots of body/face products left. Everyone was attacking the perfume. I still don't understand why the 50ML bottles were $45 and the 100ML ones were $50...
ReplyDeleteof the eau de toilette, to be specific
DeleteThey stated to me those the 100ml eau de toilette was $65.
Deleteohh, ok
DeleteAre they restocking today?
ReplyDeletePer the staff when I was there last night, they are not restocking.
ReplyDeleteAre there any solid perfumes left? By the look of the pictures uploaded today by Racked it looks like none are left but I would appreciate knowing if you were there today!
ReplyDeleteThere were a bunch at 8pm last night, but not sure as of now
DeleteThey are on the very bottom shelf in the middle of the room. Lots there yesterday, I would be shocked if they are all gone. I am going again after work today.
DeleteThanks so much for the info!
DeleteThanks so much for the info!
ReplyDeleteCan anyone comment on how well the scented wax ovals work?
ReplyDeleteI am tempted to go back today and get some...
After I purchased the hourglass diuffuser I am not happy with its potency... it is pretty though.
I love the ovals. Roses is hanging in my kitchen and it counteracts all the food smells and makes it an absolute delight to enter the apartment! I'd have picked up more today but there's only Ambre left (not a scent for me).
DeleteAnd the remaining ovals were marked and additional 20% off this morning.
DeleteOk thank you for sharing!
DeleteI was hoping for some Figuier ones to be left still... but I will still go and take a look!
Did anyone see that post on racked about the guy at the F&F sale who had two large ikea-type bags full of candles, etc. Apparently he grabbed a lot of the jumbo candles.
ReplyDeletewow I hate him even more now lol He's probably going to sell them all too.
DeleteStopped by at lunch, picked up 2 holiday candles, Ambre Oval & roll-on duo/L'ombre with Do Sun
ReplyDeleteWent after work at 7:30 pm today as I accidentally picked up the wrong solid perfume yesterday morning. Almost everything was gone, even the holiday candles. There were some holiday candles still left, but compared to the huge stacks of yesterday, mostly gone. Most of the perfume from yesterday are also gone. A few kinds remain. Ambre ovals are still there. Hourglass diffusers and body products are still there. But for the most part, the store has been wiped out pretty much.
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI was the first one in this morning before work. No candles at ALL left from the main line. And only mini candles from the Holiday Collection asside from ample full sized of Oliban for $35 (Which is actually a wonderful scent!)
Ambre Ovals abound at $20!
Several Ambre Hourglasses left. Plenty of Figiure Hourglass refills, and some Roses! (My tip, buy the Ambre hourglass but use the other scents if you are after one of the more coveted Roses smell)
Personal Fragrences are diminished. Only odd leftovers, no Phyloskos of any kind.
Persona Skincare is also diminishing... however stocked in all areas while it lasts.
No discounts as of this morning except for the 20% off the Ambre ovals... and the bulk buy deal on the hourglass diffuser + 1 or 2 refills.
No solid perfumes either... (Boo!)
Really if you go today, dont expect to buy any candles... unless you want the LTD holiday ones and even then... just mini's
Go for all the extras and keep an open mind, or just pay a bit more and get what you want full price.
