*SALE HUNT* Scoping Out Scoop's Closing Sale

Trendy, hip fashion retailer Scoop NYC is shuttering after two decades in the fashion retail business. The sad announcement broke earlier this month, and currently, all of the chain's New York stores are in liquidation mode. Offering modest deals on high-end designer duds and Scoop's in-house collections, I found bargain seekers scooping up last call markdowns at the retailer's Upper East Side location.

Although it was Monday morning, the UES store was buzzing with shoppers when I swung by to scope out the discounted merch. As it is the norm for any liquidation sale, going-out-of-business posters and banners were put up everywhere alerting passersby of the discounts and the no return policy. To break it down simply, the current markdowns for outerwear, scarves, and hats are 40% off while apparel, shoes, and handbags are 20% off.

In the women's section, I spotted an abundant selection of summery dresses and separates. As for bags, I found medium-sized black 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli satchels marked down to $716, black Soleil buckets priced $716 (large buckets were $840), and black Sophie Hulme totes priced $788. As for shoes, I found designer names like Jimmy Choo and Aquazzura discounted 20% off.

It's undetermined when all of Scoop's stores will close for good. But since it's still in the early stages of liquidation, I guesstimate prices will go down further than the current so-so slashing of 20%~40% off. However, don't waste too much time waiting around if you have a 'want' item on your shopping list as inventory was going fast. If you plan on checking out or have checked out Scoop's other stores, feel free to share your insights with your fellow Mizhattanites in the comment section below.

  1. I also checked out the Scoop stores in both locations. They weren't the best deals IMO. So, if you're a deal hunter, then this might not be the best place...again IMO.

    1. Hi Michael,

Agreed. They aren't bargain basement deals for sure--just modest markdowns. Hopefully, prices will continue to drop as the liquidation continues.

  2. Depressing to see the black and red going out of business signs. There was a piece written many years ago about how these liquidation sales are run and that there really very few bargains. I think they used the demise of filenes as the example.

    1. That's interesting. Would love to read the piece if you have the link. Yes, the current discounts aren't mind-blowing at all. A sales associate told me some of the items will go back to their vendors and the ones that are left will see further markdowns.

  3. SALE UPDATE (5/19): New price cuts at all Scoop locations. Now, 25~50% off.
