*SAMPLE SALE* Unwrapped

Now that the long weekend is over and summer has unofficially begun, the timing for DVF's grand return to the sample sale scene couldn't be better. The label's colorful and bohemian designs are perfect for beach getaways and summer in the city (although, there is no wrong season to wear them), and the brand's sample sales have always been a crowd-pleaser. So, to start this back-to-work-week right, I began the day at Diane von Furstenberg's first-in-two-years sample sale.

Let's get right to the great news. The price points and sale inventory are much better at this year's DVF sample sale. Markdowns on women's apparel and accessories are overall cheaper than at the brand's sale two years ago. In addition, shoes have been added (yay!) and there is a far more diverse selection of accessories.

To go deeper into details, the womenswear section was comprised of DVF's past seasons with items gearing towards summer-appropriate styles. Multitudes of racks were organized by size (0 to 14), and I spotted several items that are currently selling at the company's stores and online: Nieves chiffon shirt dress, Sigourney Two wrap dress, Zarita lace dress, Rissa tank top, Emelia blouse, and Genesis cropped pants. Furthermore, I also saw in the mix the label's iconic lip print dresses and blouses. As for prices, dresses, jackets, and jumpsuits were $100, coats were $250, gowns were $150, and everything else was under $75.

Bags were placed near the stairs and there was a healthy variety of styles. Clutches and small handbags were marked down to $75 while large totes were priced $100. I found minaudières, Secret Agent totes, 440 Gallery crossbodies, 440 envelope clutches, and Voyage On-the-Go totes. Neighboring the handbags were two vitrines of jewelry. Earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and rings were all $30.

DVF shoes, situated in the back, were truly a not-to-be-missed opportunity. With everything priced at just $40(!), the selection included sandals, pumps, sneakers, slingbacks, peep-toes, booties, and flats. As far as other accessories, there were seven oversized plastic bins set up that housed scarves, tights, gloves, hats, and phone cases.

Thankfully, the return of the Diane von Furstenberg sample sale will not disappoint sale-goers looking to brighten up their summer wardrobe rotation. The event offers spectacular prices not found anywhere else and there are enough vibrant prints and colors to go around. Finally, fellow Mizhattanites should make note that there is a high possibility of further reductions towards the end of the sale. So, check back on this article for any updates.

  1. Wraps were increased in price to $125 during VIP hours. Woodbury outlet was running 50% off all matching these prices. No samples was a HUGE letdown.

    1. Yup. If you go to Century 21 even now, same styles about the same price. Peruse Nordstrom Rack at the right time and you can find wraps for $46

  8. The sale was really dissapointing, Not to discourage anyone, you should still go, is you love the brand, I ended up with two dresses, so there was stuff to be found but not like previous years. There is no sample section, which was always the best way to score some really interesting pieces. I got there right before 12 today, and the line was super short, waited about 15 minutes, like grew significatnely within 10 minutes of my arrival.

  9. I also was charged $125 for a wrap dress. Do you know anything about the VIP hours and if that will continue?

  10. I went yesterday just before 5, like I wrote in my last post. No line to get in and it was crowded, but manageable in the racks. The fitting room is where it was craziest, IMO. The staff were allowing groups of 16, in 15-minute blocks. They were also giving 5 and 10 minute warnings. The fitting room was packed and there were so few mirrors, so some women were constantly stepping in front and blocking views. Almost no wrap dresses, just a few in mostly sizes 12-14. I managed to snag one in a smaller size, but I looked hard and finally found one after stalking a girl who had one in her hand, took a photo of it, then put it back on the rack. Wrap dresses were $125, and other dresses were $100. The shoes were a good deal, but very few sizes left in any style, and the popular styles were available only in like a size 10. They still had plenty of scarves and sweaters, too. Checkout line moved extremely fast. Left around 6:30pm, and the line to get in was super long.
