*SAMPLE SALE* I Feel Preppy, Oh So Preppy

The go-to for preppy wardrobe staples, Steven Alan kicked off their very popular NYC sample sale today. But unlike previous years, the brand has found a new home at 150 Greene Street in SoHo to host this week's bargain bonanza. With an early morning crowd of Alan fans busily perusing the sale offerings, I stopped by the event during the F&F hours to soak in all the excitement.

If you're a designer label fanatic and can't resist a good deal, you will feel preppy and witty and gay at this week's Steven Alan sample sale. Why? Because the event not only carried Steven Alan's eponymous label but also a slew of hip designer brands like A.P.C., 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, and Frame Denim. Oh, and the markdowns were pretty darn good.

Starting with the most besieged area, shoes and accessories for men and women, the lower floor of the sale was abuzz with enthusiastic shoppers grabbing up what they could. Footwear was comprised of sandals, pumps, espadrilles, loafers, wedges, booties, and sneakers. And as far as markdowns go, all shoes from Steven Alan were only $75 while other designer names were 75% off the tag. Some of the non-Alan labels included K. Jacques, Acne Studios, Ancient Greek Sandals, Étoile Isable Marant, Soludos, Alexander Wang, Carven, A.P.C., 3.1 Phillip Lim, New Balance, Vans, Common Projects, and more.

Also located on the basement level was a healthy assortment of accessories. There were nine plastic bins of handbags, three bins of hats, a bin of swimsuits, two bins of scarves, a bin of gloves, a bin of underwear, and two bins of belts & ties. Prices for accessories made by Steven Alan were $10~$60 while other brands were discounted 75% off.

Womenswear and menswear were placed upstairs on the main floor. Overall, the collection of inventory leaned more towards fall/winter apparel, but there was still a modest amount of lightweight fabrics to wear this summer. Prices on womenswear and menswear ranged $35~$95 for Steven Alan pieces while designs from the other brands were slashed 75% off.

The eyewear department, situated at the front of the main floor, was another crowd-pleaser. Here, I found sunglasses and optical frames for $50~$65.

The event didn't draw as much of a crowd as I expected when the doors opened to F&F this morning. However, the ambiance inside was still somewhat hectic, so keep that in mind if you plan on dropping by. Also, as a FYI, there was no fitting room set up for shoppers at this sale. Finally, for those interested, you can find the full price list at the end of this article.
