*SAMPLE SALE* Rent to Own

It's been so long since I've been to a commotion-filled sample sale (to be fair, summer is the slow season), I almost forgot how it feels to be in one. But thanks to the Rent the Runway sample sale and its enthusiastic bargain hunters, I was quickly thrown back into the hustle and bustle of things during the event's pre-opening night. Offering up to 90% off on gently-worn designer goods, the venue was filled with party staples and energetic ladies looking to snatch up deals.

Putting together the perfect party outfit can be pretty daunting especially when you factor in a restrained budget. But at the RTR sale, all your stresses will be no more as the event offers plenty of evening gowns, cocktail dresses, and party separates at bargain basement prices. However, I must warn you, it's not all sunshine and roses. Since all of the goods are in "gently used" condition, you'll need to flip through each and every item and examine with extra care.

So, now that I covered the pro and con, let's talk about the merch. In womenswear, racks were sectioned off by size (0~14), and I came across various designer labels while rummaging through the organized mess. A Rebecca Minkoff perforated moto jacket was $120 (originally $598), a Waverly Grey pink trench was $113 (originally $275), a Badgley Mischka sequin dress was $91 (originally $650), a Hervé Léger gray bandage dress was $473 (originally $1,350), a Halston Heritage light blue gown was $66 (originally $550), a Rachel Zoe floral romper was $47 (originally $425), a Milly sheath dress was $90 (originally $450), an Elizabeth and James orange sleeveless dress was $59 (originally $345), a Rebecca Taylor fuchsia dress was $75 (originally $375), a Tibi blue jumpsuit was $139 (originally $695), a Sachin + Babi satin gown was $71 (originally $595), and a Carven paint-print dress was $86 (originally $780).

Accessories could be found on the right side of the venue near the checkout counters. There were sunglasses from labels like Balenciaga, Roberto Cavalli, and Elizabeth and James for $65~$150. As for jewelry, brands like Oscar de la Renta and Ben-Amun were on display and prices were $6~$285. Adjacent to the jewelry vitrines were clutches from Kate Spade, DVF, Judith Leiber, and Marchesa for $70~$5,000. Finally, placed near the stairs were leather bags marked down to $100~$250 with brands like DVF, Moschino, Kate Spade, Loeffler Randall, Proenza Schouler, and more up for grabs.

With certain items damaged or showing signs of wear, the Rent the Runway sample sale is often a hit or miss. If you plan on attending, be prepared to spend a sizable amount of time digging through the racks and inspecting for stains/damages. Also as a FYI, the line to get into the fitting room was very long and moved at a snail's pace at tonight's preview, so keep that in mind when scheduling your work day.
