*SAMPLE SALE* Out of the LIMelight

With Manolo manias swarming the second floor of the Warwick Hotel, plus the massive media coverage outside Donald Trump's election night venue at the Hilton across the street, there's a palpable frenetic atmosphere all around Midtown today. But at the Phillip Lim sample sale, which opened this morning in SoHo to press and F&F, it was a completely different story. Inside the preview, there were less than ten shoppers and the overall ambiance was peaceful and quiet--something very unusual for a Phillip Lim sale. As for the offerings, the event featured the designer's womenswear, menswear, shoes, accessories, and of course, handbags at generous discounts. Here's more on that.

If you like Phillip Lim and love a good bargain, you'll flip for Phillip's discounted offerings at this week's sale. Why? Because prices were generally cheaper than at their last sample sale, and the handbag selection featured many of the label's signature bags. For instance, there were Pashlis for $200~$300, 31 Hour totes for $200, Soleil buckets for $200, OMG 31 Second pouches for $150, and other designs for $150.

Sharing the same floor with the bags was a generous collection of apparel for both women and men. Merchandise was organized by category, and the price list included shirts for $120 & $150, tees for $50, knits for $125 & $200, bottoms for $75 & $300, dresses for $175~$450, outerwear for $175~$500, and intimates for $30 & $50.

On the lower level, the sale had on hand a variety of footwear. Ankle boots, d'Orsay flats, smoking slippers, Martini pumps, Martini mules, Trance high-top sneakers, Mallory combat boots, and many more were up for grabs at just $100.

Finally, additional accessories were situated on the main level near the checkout counters. Sunglasses and eye frames were $75, wallets were $75, belts were $50, jewelry was $50, and key chains were $20.

Although there wasn't the usual Limsanity at this morning's press preview, unless you're waiting for next week's Alexander Wang sample sale, this event is worth stopping by if you're looking for handbags or shoes. But you better hurry because, unlike last week's Marc Jacobs sample sale, I'm told there isn't much inventory laying around in the back.

  1. Thanks for your report Miz! Do you know if they're really strict with the door policy? I'm wondering whether they'll let people come in today although they're not on the invite list for the F&F portion of the sale. Thanks as always!

    1. Hi nn,

I'm glad you asked before heading out because the F&F portion ended at 1pm today. The sale is now closed so it would be a waste of time if you go now.

    1. The womenswear selection leaned more towards warm weather apparel. I spotted lots of lightweight leather jackets, colorful short sleeves, and shorts. Thank you for reading!

  4. Hi Miz, how was the selection for men's shoes?

    1. Men's shoes weren't as abundant as women's. However, there were sneakers and loafers at $100 per pair. I would say there were approximately 12 different designs.

  5. is this cash only event? also will they hand out tickets (like today's manolo event)? thanks!

    1. Hi Juju,

Credit cards are accepted and there isn't a ticket system. If I'm not mistaken, Manolo is the only sale that implements a ticket system.

  9. Hi Miz,
Do you think bags ( 31 Hour or Pashlis) will still be available later today?

    1. It's doubtful since I was told handbags wouldn't be restocked. Plus there was a large turnout of shoppers this morning.

  10. Stopped by 11ish. Line down the block. Maybe 40-60 people? Don't be fooled if you walk up Greene and see no line. They were maintaining the line on Houston. I didn't stay and wait since I didn't hold out hope for much of a bag selection by the time I'd get in.

  11. Quick 10 min wait today at 6pm. Bags are pretty picked over. Note that there are no fitting rooms!

  17. I went last night right before 5. No bags and to me clothes were still too pricey, but I got two pairs of shoes. If you are a 37-38, I would run there!

  18. I got there after 6 last night and there was no line to get in. I managed to get a unique grey/silver crossbody (last one) for $150. There were a couple of peach mini pashli satchels and a few stragglers. For the most part shoes were limited to 37 or 40s for popular styles )cashier says more shoes may be brought out but not bags) . Clothes are still in abundance. Not additional discounts noted yet
