At 7:30am, the line for the opening of the Barneys Warehouse sale was already down to the corner of 7th. My guesstimate: around 300 in front of me and a steady stream of people forming behind me. Fortunately, patrons entered in huge chunks so I was inside by 8:08.
At 8:09, with Simon Doonan's words of wisdom repeating inside my head, I spot the perfectly situated (ie- right in your face as you enter) metal racks of shoes. Ooh~ sooo many shoes...where do I start? How about with Lanvin? I spotted their pumps for $454.93 (originally $1,135) and sandals for $448.23 (originally $1,110). Lots of Manonolos for $349 (originally $865), $279 (originally $695), $349 ($865), and $381.23 (originally $955). Moschino Cheap and Chic slingbacks were $194 (originally $650). Louboutins? Don't worry, they were there. Sandals for $319 (originally $795), $339 (originally $845), and $359 (originally $890). Miu Miu slingbacks were $300.83 (originally $755), Derek Lam sandals $635.85 (originally $15.90), and a pair of gorgeous Alaia were $319 (originally $810). FYI, shoe with blue stamps were an additional 25% off. All of these deals were ok, but I did notice a few pairs with signs of significant wear.
By 8:15, the large sale space was cramped with people weaving in and out of other people's way. Mirror access was extremely limited with ladies shoving to get a view. "Crazy", "hectic", "mind-numbingly suffocating" are words that come to mind of the atmosphere there.
At 8:23, I'm literally pushed towards the clothing section by the waves and waves of people ushering in. First thing that caught my eye was a stunning metal-studded Balenciaga dress with no price tag. A black under.ligne by Doo.Ri dress was $175 (originally $355), Toledo chiffon lace dress was $1,989 (originally $4,975), L'Wren Scott jacket for $749.50, Gregory Parkinson for $599 (originally $1,500), Love by Richard Chai dress for $189 (originally $365), Marc by Marc Jacobs jacket was $359 (originally $598), House of Holland lace skirt was $219 (originally $550). In addition. lots of Lanvins were available. One silk crepe dress that I saw was priced $1,124.50 (originally $3,755). There was also a denim section with jeans that were an additional 25% off the marked price. A selection of swimwear & intimates was placed in the back corner of the room.
8:45, I'm out the exit. Mind you, I will be back sometime during the duration of this sale since new items are constantly being added~ Happy shopping!!
