*SAMPLE SALE* Holy Chyc!

Bonjour Mizhattanites! As you all know, today marks the return of one of the year's biggest NYC sample sales--the YSL sample sale. I woke up at the break of dawn and quickly made my way downtown so that I could be part of today's shopping frenzy. After all, this is undoubtedly an epic event and there was no way I was going to pass up on some good old fashion sample sale hysterics/mayhem.

Holy Chyc! Pardon my "French" but this was my exact thought when I saw the behemoth queue today morning. In my many years of sample sale shopping, I have never seen so many shoppers lined up as they did today. It was a record breaker in my book. The queue started in front of the Soiffer Haskin building and snaked all the way down to 9th Ave, wrapped around the corner of 9th Ave & 34th St, and terminated midway down 34th. As of my last venture down 34th St (right before opening), the line showed absolutely no signs of stopping.

Feeling cranky and exhausted from waiting for what seemed like an eternity, I finally made it inside the showroom at around 9:10am as a member of one of the first groups. As soon as I entered, I was suddenly hit with a strong sensation of déjà vu as all the merchandise was a stock from last June's event.

So, let's start with schematics. The left side wall was fully occupied by racks of shoes organized by size. Multiple clothing racks were front and center, while the handbag tables were situated adjacent to the clothes. Accessories could be found on the right side wall.

If you remember my June '12 report, Tribute sandals dominated the shoe racks, and once again, those same Tribute sandals were back for round two. They were available in various colors and were priced $350. I also spotted many summer espadrilles, Tribtoo pumps, satin evening slingbacks, python/suede platforms, and floral print wedges.

With a limit of 3 handbags per person, the bag section was comprised of black patent Downtowns, black Y-Mail totes, YSL logo canvas totes, Muse Twos, Roadys, Muses in raffia, and many more. It seemed pretty obvious that the company was trying to get rid of their old inventory as all the handbags were from old seasons. In case you're wondering about Cabas Chycs, there were only 2 in perforated leather this early morning and were immediately snatched up by a lucky shopper. As for prices, each handbag was color-coded and ranged from $200 to $800.

Many of you were particularly interested in $50 Arty rings last June, and I'm happy to report that there were available at this sale. Other accessories included $75 sunglasses, $50 belts, $100 scarves, and $100 wallets. You can find the full price list is at the end of this article.

Moving to the RTW section, there was an abundance of merchandise. I spotted gorgeous white satin knee-length dresses, floral chiffon dresses, military-inspired jackets, and office-appropriate suits & jackets. As for men, the selection was limited to 6 racks of RTW and a table of shoes--mostly sneakers.

The heart wants what the heart wants, and we all want a piece of YSL--especially now more than ever since the company is taking a dramatic redesign with Hedi Slimane at the helm. Therefore, this week's YSL sample sale is the perfect chance to grab anything from the Pilati era. Just remember that if you're a trendy fashionista concerned with purchasing merchandise that might be considered "vintage" by next year, my MizAdvice is to hunt for Cabas Chycs & Tribute sandals (I was told there will be more restocking tomorrow) as these two best-sellers will stick around after the Saint Laurent switch. Happy Shopping!

  2. I went at 5 this morning because of your YSL sale announcement 2 weeks ago. I came out with 3 bags. It pays to wake up early when it's such a talked about sale. I feel sorry for the people who are still waiting to get in. Thank you Mizhattan for this scoop.

  5. The line is still to the corner of 34th and 9th Avenue! I just passed on the way to my apartment- too long to stand in the rain for me.

Does anyone know exactly how much the Downtowns are and if there is a good selection of artsy rings? I'm debating waiting for the hype to die down and go tomorrow.

  6. I waited early this morning for some shoes in size 37. By the time they let us in there were nothing good left. No Tribs, Trib Sandals, nothing of normal wearable color unless you are size 10+. It definitely was not worth it.

  7. Are there any reversible leather totes at the sale?

    1. Go as early as possible. Many people gave up and went home today, so they'll be back tomorrow.

  10. Got a pair Tributes, 2 gold dot arty rings and 2 wrap around bracelets. If u want a purse I feel its a good run. No wallets :( and show sizes in 36-38 were wiped out but they had A LOT of restock in the back. Also, the men stuff was weak. No YSL cotton tees for men and not too many shoes but a lot of clothes.

  11. I just got back from the site. I went around 2:30-3pm to see if the line would be shorter, but boy I was wrong! The line went around 9th avenue and a gentleman said it would take 2-3 hours until I would see the inside. Therefore, I left and decided to try again on another day.=(

  14. Was everyone in line guaranteed to get in today by 6:30? If not, did they pass out numbers to people left in line so that they can get in first tomorrow or is it first come first serve again tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  15. first come first serve - anyone know how the men's shoes were?

    1. Shoes were the best sellers. Next came bags & accessories. Clothing lagged behind everything else.

  17. I went by around 6 p.m. and the line was still going strong. They were not giving out tickets for tomorrow and were basically like "wait in line at your own risk" -- so definitely get there early tomorrow! A lot of people were defecting with plans to come back tomorrow, so basically if you can get there at 2 am...you should.

  18. This is the worst sample sale I've ever been to in my life! My friends and I spent at least 4 hours on the line. And we got NOTHING!!! NOT EVEN A RING! Shoes and bags suck(very old fashion style. I had a same bag which I bought 7 or 8 years ago.)! Jewelery sucks too! I'm quite sure they're left over from the last sample sale...

yes, they got some muse2 and downtown. But they're all in very disgusting colors...

    highly unrecommended.

  19. OMG! Mizhattan as you made it in at 9.10 am, which color tribute sandals did you see? And also tribtoo pumps? I've been there since 8am on the line. Made it inside at 1.30 pm but haven't seen any tribute sandals at all, and boy I've waited all day till 6pm to miraculously see a salesperson restocking but it didn't happen :(

    1. The shoe section was very busy and I was too focused on jolting things down that I don't really remember which colors I saw. I'm sorry to hear that you waited all day but came out empty-handed. Hopefully, you'll have better luck this week or at another sale :)

  20. I really think YSL is hyping this sale up through the press grape vine so all the old/ugly/not trendy stuff sells the more people the better. They want money for old junk that's from 2007

    ReplyDelete
  21. Not worth it, really not.

Anything worth buying is sold out. The only thing getting restocked are shoes in larger sizes and canvas totes for $300. No other bags.

They expect another crazy day and tons of ppl. The way things are going there won't be anything left.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I was one of the 1st set of people to get in and I was able to get two Cabas Chyc bronze tote and 2 YSL logo belts. I did not get any shoes. There were no wallets and the clutches were not the best.

and mizhattan - of course! you rock!

    1. From what I heard during the VIP sale, they will not restock clothing. IDK how the racks looked today.

      Delete
    2. The clothing was not restocked and doesn't seem to be any left in the stock room - it looked empty as I passed it for the dressing room and they've been saying everything's out. The smaller sizes 34-40 are pretty picked through by this point, but still some for the bigger sizes though not much, and they honestly just aren't that cute...

      Delete
  28. No line as of a hour ago but really its not worth it.

Most of the shoe styles are really picked over. If your a size 9 and larger you have a small chance of getting something nice, not great, but nice.

Clothes were all the left over stuff from the last sale, clothes were not restocked and was so picked over. Only 4-5 racks and most of the stuff were really old styles.

Shoes were restocked but nothing is left.I heard it was crazy again this morining, There is no more restocking. Everything in on the floor. No stock in the back anymore

Everything else was well picked over. Bags were whatever is on the table and some of those are really scuffed up. Y-mail totes are the main bags they have left.

No discounts today. I heard a worker saying they might not even have any discounts tomorrow cause they expect it to be a line again. Seems they think ppl who go will buy anything. They maybe right....

ppl were buying stuff just cause they stood in line and didn't want to have wasted those hours for nothing....

    2. I saw them yesterday too, and really regret not getting them. Any word on whether this style was restocked, and if it's still around today?

      Delete
  30. If you got there early enough yesterday then you were good. First or second group in. I was the fourth group in and grabbed a pair Tributes. They were the only one I saw in my size (40). Someone I know went in the first group and got Tributes, Tribtoos, belts, arty rings..etc. It was all about what you wanted and having an open mind. I am very happy with my purchases.

  31. Are there any small leather goods left...wallets, makeup bags etc?? Worth going just for this?? Thanks~

  32. I went at 2:30pm today, no line. shoe selection was pretty picked over but still some stuff to choose from. size 5, nothing really left, I got a sandal for $200(down from $885), didn't see any tributes for smaller sizess. Were lots of bags still left but nothing desirable. In my opinion not worth $600-$800 even if their original price was near $2000. no wallets. no sunglasses. lots of belts left. From what I see, 5hr wait doesn't seem worth it & glad I went today when there was no line.

  39. Just came back. Arrived at 12:15pm and was inside shopping within 20min. There are Muse II bags, colorblock with magenta($500). Studded Easy bags ($500), Studded Roadys, and a few other bags. Shoes are scarce now especially small sizes. Sizes 39-41 may have some peeptoes and wedges. A handfull of defective belts, and not much jewelry left only a couple of cuffs.

  40. This was the worst sale I've ever been to. Definitely not worth it. There were many women still hoarding bags but I guess it was out of desperation. The bags left weren't pretty. Barely any shoes or clothes. Ugly jewelry and the guy's section was horrible. Not worth it, they're just trying to make money from junk

    ReplyDelete
  41. Lots of bags - Downtowns, Muse Two, etc. Not much shoes left, no tribute, only have beige pump and flower printed pump. Not many RTW left neither. The line wasn't too bad this afternoon. Wait about 40 mins to get in.
