*SAMPLE SALE* From A to Z

You know what they say: Behind every great man is a greater woman. Therefore, logically-speaking, behind every well-dressed man, there most probably is a smart and sophisticated woman who likes to dress him up in a few well-made pieces from Zegna. A renown leader in luxury menswear, Ermenegildo Zegna opened their doors to Father's Day shoppers early this morning at C21 and I stopped by to check out the sale offerings. With Zegna's sister brand, Agnona, also on hand (both labels are helmed by former YSL creative director Stefano Pilati), the venue was literally filled with everything from A to Z.

More than a century old, Italian menswear label Ermenegildo Zegna began as a textile mill and has now grown into a global fashion house. The brand is known for producing well-tailored suits and today's sample sale offered discounts on their high-quality designs.

The venue at C21 was divided into two sections. Women's inventory from Agnona was set up on the main floor while the men's offerings from Zegna were displayed on the upper level. Inside the Agnona section, I spotted Stefano Pilati's minimalistic designs discounted 80% off retail. The sale selection included RTW, shoes, bags, and accessories like belts and socks. While browsing, I noticed the merchandise wasn't from a specific collection but rather was comprised of several seasons. Items included tailored blazers, fitted knit dresses, heavy wool/cashmere knits, dress pants, pencil skirts, summer dresses, winter coats, and more. Again, everything was marked down 80% from the tag. To give you some examples, dresses were roughly $399~$899, jackets were $279~$639, and coats were $499~$1,619. Other than apparel, the sale had 20~30 boxes of Agnona footwear and a rack of $88 leather belts.

Up on the second floor was the main attraction. The sale space was neatly organized with goods from Ermenegildo Zegna as well as the brand's diffusion line Z Zegna. Before I get into pricing and selection details, let's first talk about size availability. Unfortunately, I'm disappointed to report that if you're shopping for anything other than Medium (48~50), you are straight out of luck.

As for the selection, there was an abundance of button-down shirts, polos, dress pants, tweed blazers, tailored suits, sport jackets, and heavy outerwear. As far as discounts are concerned, unlike Agnona where you have to manually calculate the final price by looking at the tags, prices on men's merchandise were divided into categories. In the Zegna section, polos were $95, button-down shirts were $95, knits were $150 & $295, pants were $120, blazers were $495, shoes were $175 & $295, suit vests were $175 & $195, and suits were $695. Obviously, items from Z Zegna were priced lower than the company's main label. The diffusion line's polo shirts were $75, casual shirts were $60, knits were $75, blazers were $295, and shoes were $95.

If you're looking for items under $100 for a Father's Day present, cufflinks and neckties are your best bet. Cufflinks were $95 while neckties were $50.

Though everything was discounted, you shouldn't expect cheap prices at this week's Zegna and Agnona sample sale. For a menswear brand, I love Zegna as much as the next person but, after checking out the sale, I don't recommend this event to any of my fellow Mizhattanites who are searching for bargain basement prices.

  2. Thanks for the review! I am disappointed with the prices too. These seem more like regular Century 21 prices. I wouldn't rush out to go to this sale unless there are additional discounts.

    1. I went today to check out the discounts. Agnona was 90% while Zegna was 30% off. Great last minute deals on ties and cuff links in particular. As for womenswear it was still a bit too expensive. Unless you work in a very conservative office environment I wouldn't bother (barring even more discounts). The only good women's deal would have been shoes but all that was left was size 40 or 35 and only 10 pairs total at that. Go for Zegna and menswear.
